We don't keep any money in the bank at all. Comes out the day it goes in apart from the very few DDs I have.
Am wondering when they will bring out a licence for keeping a computer.

Or for keeping cash in the house ...
    We're all doomed
  • I'm getting rid of my current hoard of £1 coins and replacing them with £2 coins and 50p pieces as the current £1 coin is being replaced by a 12 sided one in a couple of years time. I suspect that the current £1s will be phased out gradually between now and then so I'll make sure I have none by the time the change happens. I try to keep £250 of loose coinage just in case the power goes off and the cash machines aren't working. That hopefully gives me a means to buy what I need with cash needing no change.

Just had an email from D T Brown offering me half price fruit trees! I've ordered from them before; they are good, with excellent customer service too, friendly and helpful. I think you may have to sign up for their newsletter to get the offer, but it's well worth it, as lots of fruit trees are now £10 ish with £4.95 p & p - here is the linky:

I've ordered a quince tree, as I have wanted one for ages; some exciting bean seeds, and asparagus crowns, seem to have jumped into my basket as well - oops!

The problem is that if you have a TV that is capable of watching live TV then you have to pay for a licence. Though if you get rid of the TV's and watch catchup on computers you can avoid the tax. Though if too many people did that they may extend the licence to catchup TV as well.

Obviously I'm being very stupid here, but .... I thought it was about what you watch not what you have ? I have a tv that can pick up catch up tv if I press the smart button, but I spose if I added a Ariel to it I could watch live tv but as it stands just now I couldn't tell you if it can pick up live tv as I never watch live tv

I have been under the impression that the tv licence covers live tv viewing not what could be? Kinda like having a car and not paying road tax or national insurance cause it never leaves your driveway kinda thing

Crikey. I suggest everyone fixes their energy cost as far in the future as possible, in view of this.

It used to be that having a TV even if it was not plugged in and connected was enough to be liable, though if that TV or monitor was modified so that you cannot receive live TV then you were exempt. I do not see that as having changed.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.
