I bought a Panasonic breadmaker last year, and have carefully washed the bread pan in the sink after I do the dishes.

Today, I was reading the instructions again, and found it is only supposed to be wiped out!

Am I wrong to be immersing it? It seemed to need a soak to get all the hardened dough off the stirring spindle.

    What do others do?

My OH would get jealous though if I told him I was off out the greenhouse to tickle my toms...lol :)

He'd probably prefer it, if you tickled his toms instead. :p

Hi guys, totally agree with ginny and nuatha - my security vanished with the advent of ill-health, along with my physical ability. I'm glad i achieved a lot of my goals (non financial) when younger as lots would be impossible now.

Am currently working on present/future personal security as best i can but it looks very different to what i imagined.

Ginny do you have a pattern for the black and white throw on your blog - it's stunning!
  • Just received this years Council Tax Bill.

On the front of the envelope, it says "PLEASE AFFIX POSTAGE STAMP TO RETURN ENVELOPE".

On the rear of the envelope, it says "HELP! If this person has moved What is their new address?"

So, if I was to receive a CT Bill, addressed to someone who no longer lives here, I'm supposed to write their new address on the back of the letter, then pay to send it back to the CT office?

    Like that would happen. :rotfl:

  • Apparently, it's when it isn't standing on the floor.

I was in town earlier today.

At the entrance to the precinct, there's a sign listing things which are/aren't allowed in the malls.

One of the things not allowed is dogs, other than assistance dogs.

A woman, with a small dog on a lead, walks up to the door, looks at the sign, picks the dog up off the floor, then walks through the door and into the malls.

I'm in the process of trying to catch up after visiting FIL last week and It might take me awhile in between other jobs and trying to keep warm by doing stuff. I might even do some ironing:eek: Normally avoided at all costs, but OH is running out of shirts:o and the heat from the iron will be welcome.
Our boiler is still not fixed and we have no hot water or heating. It's worked intermittently over the last 3 weeks but has now broken down again. We are having to rely on the home emergency cover that comes with the house insurance, but what a fiasco it is. It's driving me nuts and I'm keeping notes so that they can't squirm out of sorting it as they have already tried too:mad:. In the mean time I shall be using the oven and it's going to be warming comfort food and hotwater bottles and hot drinks. At least we have warm covers and are draft proof and it's not as cold a last year.

Our council tax bill came this morning and although we get ct benefit we have to find just over £100 for the year. I shall be paying it all next week since I was prepared and have saved up and it will be one less bill to worry about then. Next month I shall pay our home phone line rental upfront for the year.

GQ great news that you got the all clear, what a relief. I can't imagine how great you must have felt on being given the all clear. Hope you had a celebration. As an ME'er I am always fearful that my symptoms will mask the onset of C and it will be too late by the time the Dr's take me seriously. I have a family history of C and it scares me, but thankfully the one scare I had a few years back turned out to be nothing to worry about and I too got the all clear. At the time I was so worried I couldn't even covey how I felt to OH and we share Everything.

Nuatha you're right about shtf events hitting at times in close succession. In our experience that's exactly what happens and in our life they are like buses. Just as we are going along on an even keel and start to relax a little along they come boom boom boom, three at a time. Hence we rarely relax and don't take anything for granted.

I'm reaching a land mark birthday later this year and I'm torn between accepting my age and limitations and feeling much younger in my head. Unfortunately my health dictates and reminds of reality all too often. As the date draws closer I find myself looking around at the world with concern and a feeling of impending doom. I'm not a negative person, in fact far from it. I think of my self as an optimist, but also a realist amongst other things. Although I haven't caught up on here yet the talk about the effects of computer games is something I feel quite strongly about and I'm convinced that along with the media that they have contributed to the desensitising of emotions and morals in relation to war, violence and crime. It has been proven by research that playing these games actually changes the way our brains evolve. Too many children play unsuitable games and see content on tv that has now become acceptable and the norm. The fact that little shocks or distresses these days is proof of desensitising in my view.
There are other factors that have effected society of course such as the lack of discipline and respect shown by so many. Old fashioned consideration to others etc.

We don't venture out much and when we do the decline of society and values is even more evident particularly on the roads. Not only is the standard of driving slipping, but also the consideration to other road users. As we drove home from Bolton way on the M62 last week I was shocked at the number of drivers who failed to have their lights on in heavy rain and with so much spray even those with lights could barely be seen. Is it any wonder there are so many accidents. Not only do so many lack common sense, but also seem to drive with total disregard to other road users. It seems to me that generally people appear so wrapped up in their own worlds that looking after no. 1 is the only thing that matters to them and this makes me so sad. Thankfully we left the M62 at Huddersfield and then travelled across and down south back home. Apart from the terrible driving conditions I was also shocked at the state of such a major road with so many potholes especially on the Lancs side. The A roads weren't much better and I am fearful that it's only a matter of time before the car suffers and we get a shtf repair bill :(

Anyway sorry if I've ranted a bit:o The outside world seems so crazy at times and peoples behaviour difficult to comprehend when you have avoided becoming a boiled frog and only venture out occasionally.
Off to catch up now and get my tin hat before catching up on the events in Europe and the [STRIKE]hidden[/STRIKE] missing plane.

Why is William Hague being such a tit about Crimea?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-26608224

He's a tit about everything is he not. A horrible little man with delusions of grandeur.
If a dog or cat had a tick I used to put a blob/small squirt of good quality washing up liquid on the tick... this would cause an air lock, so the tick could not breath and let go... and then I used to pull the begger off...and I used to plop into a small container of washing up liquid.. so it would die..lol..

    Thanks for this tip.

Have been slowly working my way through the thread and gathering information ... Some one mentioned a while back a lodge Dutch oven, having just bought ourselves some stoves I thought this a great wee idea to add

Today I'm cooking our first meal on the stove :)
Thankyou who ever suggested it :)

I now have stove envy, wish we had a house suitable for one of these.

Haven't a clue I'm afraid. Do tomatoes need as much light/heat as cannabis?!
:D Who knows, but if you need to raise a cash crop, cannabis has greater resale value.:rotfl:

One of my pals used to have a small glass greenhouse snuggled into the back garden and completely full of tomato plants. Well, apart from the three which were of a.n.other variety, if you catch my drift. ;) Growing weed was apparently commonplace inside beseiged Sarajevo, as people were using it to alleiviate the stress. Most of my neighbours are either using or dealing weed, as the rest of us and the polis know fine well.

Well, apart from one pensioner who is a touch unworldly and remarked to SuperGran that the bloke next door must be ever so popular, he has such a lot of visitors. SG held her tongue; she's of an age with this woman but a thousand times more streetwise. This particular neighbour is no trouble to us, although the taxpayers are contributing about £11k p.a. for his benefits whilst he deals weed. He's being like this for decades and I don't expect he'll ever become a productive citizen. Or pay taxes on his entreprenurial activities, lol.

Bob, I saw the pan which had been bought at my behest and it wasn't the single egg one, it was the slightly bigger model. Went to that Aldee the same week and they didn't have the singleton ones, as Mum assured me that they didn't when she went in. Serves me right for not doing my own shopping. Never mind, I paid her for it and have stashed it under the sofa. I knew those shallow drawers would come in handy for more than tinned sardines and lasagne sheets.

Been on the lottie today, in a whirligig of sun and racing clouds with the occasional shower. Sleet has fallen on the parental units but not reached my area yet. Lottie is getting there and the second batch of broad beans, the spring sown ones, have appeared in the last few days. Nary a sign last Sunday but now all up. And the onion sets have struck and started to shoot, bless them.
