Sorry GQ & Frugalsod, I did not mean to offend or criticise you by posting that link.

You did not offend or criticise me at all. My comments about what he said were aimed at the presenter not you. :A

It was more of a critique of what he said. The problem is that there are plenty of charlatans on the news who spout similar theories. They are all misinterpreting the facts. Yes the basic data is fine but cherry picking what they want to emphasise. Yes government debt is going be a problem but it pale into insignificance next to private mortgage debt and the debt of businesses and the banks. Adding all the various debts and it amounts to nearly 6 times income, and many have no debts at all. The reason why the Queen asked "Why did no one foresee the crisis?" was because all the mainstream economists netted off all the debts as owed to someone else as an asset so net balance was zero.

Don't forget that our Chancellor predicted green shoots of recovery long ago and we still have not recovered to the level we attained in 2008. The same applies to most mainstream neoclassical economists because they are ignoring the full impact that government cuts are having. So until they learn the error of their economic models we will muddle along until things collapse. It could be years as Japan has demonstrated.

So I am doing what is right for me and clearing my debts as fast as possible even though that in the meantime significantly reduces my spending now. Once I am debt free I will be saving up to buy all my SHTF kit and then preparing for the worst should it come. It might all be averted but I do not hold out much hope right now. Unless they have a model of the economy that can explain these failings then they can avoid it. Many of the theories do not and so that is why problems lie ahead.

If incomes collapse like they did in Greece Spain or Ireland then I will be able to cope far better than the majority of people. When people quote Ireland Latvia and Estonia as good examples of how to get through austerity they fail to include how much unemployment has fallen through mass emigration.

morning all, lovely morning here, yesterday planted my potatoes dug them deeper as read gq post few days ago about early planting. got a wash on as its so lovely over here will dry quickly. oh away to work, manchild still sleeping ,kids all off school today over here. does anybody know if its too early to plant out tomatoes in greenhouse. I planted seeds in pots a few weeks ago and put them on window sills around the house well the cherry toms are starting to trail like ivy towards the floor, maybe just tie them around sticks? watched some of the link about the downfall of our country someone had posted quite un nerving, shall watch the reat later. have a good day all xxx

If the Toms are ready to pot on to a bigger pot you can transplant them but put them deeper so alot of the stem gets buried. Toms simply form extra roots from any part you bury so its a good way to strengthen leggy seedlings. Bit early for the greenhouse unless its heated, not so much the days as the nights that still get too cold. My toms/peppers/chilis and aubergines won't go out till mid April at least. But I have onion seedlings outside, and in the unheated greenhouse, salad and spinach seedlings and a new mint plant (adding to my collection of mints lol). The sweetpeas, and brassicas will be going out this week as well.

Its a good time of year to have salad leaves/oriental leaves/spinach/rocket growing in the unheated greenhouse as they are ok as long as the frost is kept off them and they actually germinate better and are less likely to bolt than in the heat of summer.

Although if we got a late winter blast/snow I would consider bringing stuff in or covering with fleece and/or cloches.

:)jk0, not offended by you, just offended by some of the things which were on that linkie. But it's an hour and I've only listened to half of it before work.

:j I'm a happy bunny as have spent half the afternoon at the 'orspital and the outcome is that I don't have breast cancer - that's a weight off my mind, let me tell you. Am doing this - :D:D:D.

DD&D, I often note the obsessive involvement of peeps with their phones and other IT toys in social situations with amusement and bemusement. Such as the couple sitting over a small table in an intimate cafe, she engrossed in her phone, he rivetted to his laptop. Or the young man in a restaurant with two attractive young women sharing a meal. He staring at a tablet computer and each of the girls separately bewitched by their i-phones.

And don't even get me started on the daily dance to get out of the way of the i-zombies as they walk around the street oblivious to the rest of us, or indeed, the traffic.

I'm not a complete luddite as am texting to and fro with a pal to organise tonight's excursion beyond the city limits. We are going beyond the street-lights so better have torch to hand. There will be cats to cuddle, as well. Don't tell my parole officer that I'm venturing beyond the bypass, tho, pretty sure that's not allowed. I definately mustn't cross the county line......wanders off to take screwdriver to her tag.

:) I'm a-getting there, nearly levered the darned thing off. It's bookgroup night. Or as my disrespectful Dad insists on calling them - The Coven. Because we meet once a month, y'unnerstand.:rotfl:That business with the goats was a slanderous misunderstanding. Allegedly. And we have a solicitor in our group, so people better mind their p's and q's. Is that a writ I see before me?!

I'm sooo pleased (Mum's had b.c) that I could jump for joy. But better not do that indoors as I'm a substantial lady and it's a very small room. Could end in a comedy accident.....:p

When I first grew toms I used to have trays and pots of seedlings everywhere, but then I found out that when they get bigger you can take cuttings-with most varieties you remove sideshoots anyway. These root unbelievable easily, simply pinch off shove in a pot of compost and water. These grow fast and as their "dna" effectively is the same age as the original plant, they develop and flower at the same time. Saves all the seedlings now ;). I have two of each variety I am growing and will take extra cuttings later to increase numbers. I also found a smaller number of well looked after Tomatos seem to do better and produce more fruit that too many plants.

My first year I think I had 36 seedlings and grew on about 30. Now I grow about 6-8 seedlings and with cuttings will grow on about 12 ish.

But have fun anyway, my trouble is I hate throwing away seedlings so always feel I have to grow them on once planted :rotfl:.

My parents weren't too keen on me playing in the streets when I was a child (early 80's), but instead of keeping me inside I did play in the back garden of our house or a friends so there was always an adult nearby to keep an eye on us and shush us if we became too noisy. Now the only kids you see out are the younger ones screaming, bawling and swearing! The older ones are all inside playing the latest videogame (I include my SS in this as he rarely surfaces).

I also need a rant I'm afraid. Bagged up some unwanted clothes (all clean and pressed except the stuff that still had tags on it they were just pressed) to take to the cash for clothes place. The chap there refused to take half of it saying they were well worn. When I pointed out that some of the stuff he'd discarded was new (and showed him the tags) he came clean and admitted it was the fact they wouldn't take some cheaper brands (supermarket clothes, primarni etc). I was shocked. After all its only 50p a kilo. When did places like this become so picky? I was hoping for a few extra pounds (between jobs at the moment), this experience has shocked me.

Perhaps it is worth advertising the new and good condition items on facebook, or putting on ebay?
