    We were talking about what we carry in our cars today and I have been scorned and lectured on how I can get arrested for carrying a hammer in my car.

    Is this true? how else are you supposed to get wheel nuts off? I'm only a girl :p

    This set me to wondering, knife to the lottie? rolling pin? what do they class as unsuitable to drive around with?

    Surely it is up to the police you were up to no good with these items.

    Good advice on the footware GQ I didn't think about walking miles in them so will put an old pair of bedded in wellies in the car instead.

    Our parish Council tax went up 17% :eek: blood suckers :eek:

    Talking of which it's tick season and I know this as we had a tick on one of the cats this morning and DH looked like this _pale_ :rotfl:

    I had to double check the packets as Stronghold which I thought was the all singing and dancing treatment for everything does not do ticks so I'm glad I read the box first and I'm glad we had a load of frontline in as well. The tick removal was a step too far for DH but at least I know how to get rid of him for a couple of hours

    I used to have a couple of the really Diddy swiss army knives. Probably still have them somewhere just no clue where.

    Do they still have a tooth pick in them and a pair of tweezers?

    Edit...found one. mine will be around 20yrs old and was a promotional gift used by Vickers Defense Systems....anyhow it has...

    A knife, tooth pick, tweezers, nail file, sizzors, another knife.
    Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • Paidinchickens - ticks are horrid but what you need is a "O'Tom Tick Twister". You get two different sized ones in a pack - but they are really easy to use. I still hate doing it, but at least can!

    I got mine from the vet (?£5) but no doubt you can get them elsewhere (and probably cheaper!).

    :D Silly Bob! Everyone knows torches use semaphore not Morse Code. :D

    Are those £land 9-LED torches any good?

    A long or telescopic wheel brace would probably do just as well, could be used as a hammer or blunt instrument in emergencies, and is less likely to get you done for "going equipped". I have a telescopic one myself, about 14" closed and 20" extended* which is much better than the one the car manufacturer supplied.

    They look like the R0ls0n ones I got at T3sco last year, £1.50 for pack of 3 :)
    Very bright for the size of them and give a diffuse rather than focused light so could for general use about the house or campsite I think. Haven't tested the battery life but probably ok with the LEDs.

    I've been using mine every night to see the ticket machine for a year...still going good and haven't had to even change batteries yet.

    Actually I was making a serious point.

    There's no point sending a message in Morse, if you can't understand the reply.

    Much better to just use the internationally recognised distress signal.

    I have wellingtons, gloves, shovel & cat litter in the car boot, in winter as well as the usual break down equipment.

    The wellingtons came in handy when I had to visit my flooded tenants back in December.

    Did you guys see the vehicle emergency kit belonging to Poet on PP? There are some other useful ideas in the comments:

    Edit: Not sure why someone thought he needs suppositories. :)

    Extreme prepping? :rotfl::rotfl:

    I've got a diddy dentistry kit that I bought in the USA. It has crown adhesive, stuff for a temporary filling and some instruments. I also have oil of cloves in my first aid kit. It's my second one. I used the first and it worked well.

    More extreme prepping? :eek::eek:

    Seriously though, have you ever been stopped by the police in your car? I haven't in gawd knows how many years. From my experience they don't bother with harrassed looking young mums with children,harrassed looking lecturers with minibus loads of troublesome students, or middle aged or older ladies even if not harrassed looking any more :)

    Seriously, I could have been carrying a full chain saw massacre kit around with me for years and nobody would ever have known... :D
