Morning.
I think the whole lack of how anyone can help is disturbing. Why isn't there a list of Mrs sonso needs.... or Mr J Bloggs really needs to find.......... I have heard nothing.
I have an emergency heated cat pen so I could rehome a family of cats (not ideal) but at least it would be one less worry for a family who's flooded.
Last night night my SIL took the dog to the local shops and a group of men shouted questions about if she was any good at rabbiting etc. Now my SIL is not easily worried but when he saw them turn the car round, five biggish blokes get out and start looking round to see who was watching before heading over towards them it made him panic. They even followed him with the dog and my SIL ended up running through all the local passages and parks to lose them. He grew up in the area so knows all the short cuts and is quite fit but if it was my DD on 20 fags a day they would have got the dog.
What is the world coming to, it makes you want to buy a shotgun.

FUDDLE DD1 lives in an area where flooding is potentially likely though her house is a tiny bit higher than the surrounding ones and has not been affected in the past. She has registered with the Environment Agency Emergency Floodline and if there is a danger of flooding she gets a text message to her mobile phone. They even text to say she isn't in danger if there is a general warning out for the entire area. If you did this you would get warnings to enable you to put precious things above the likely water line, think it's a free service too, Lyn xxx.0

It's definately free. You can leave multiple contact methods (mobile, landline, email) and automated warnings come to them. I metioned to SuperGran a few years ago that I'd signed up and she was already on the system. We're about 50 yards from the river, although she's not on the ground floor like me.
It doesn't take long to set up and might help your peace of mind.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

DD is due to go into hospital today and she has been suffering with severe panic attacks for the last couple of months (never had them before) I don't want to push her into it and it's SIL that needs to report it but you know what men are like.
I have posted to the RSPCA and I walk the dogs with a bobby so I will be telling him this morning.
I don't know what I'd do if it was me.
We don't watch the TV so my new comes via the internet and my local police reports direct to my inbox.
The allotments (we only just got) have had chickens stolen and beaten with sticks and nails there, who would do that??? There are some sick people in the world. Mine will stay living on the drive they call it home now anyway :rotfl:
I will be reviewing my self defense preps today I think as taking DH with me is not a deterrent as he is falling to bits and he's no Rambo.

OMG!!!! I hope they reported it to the police... I know its not the thing that comes to mind in a situation like that, but did they get the car reg???
It does make you think.... this is a situation where some blokes wanted the dog for hunting/bating/fighting, BUT if there was some sort of civil unrest, for what ever reason, just imagine what the situation could be like??? maybe not for the dog, but even a loaf of bread, a few potatoes etc.... so bloody freightening... hope they are ok now... and hope it doesn't leave too many mental scares...not nice, not nice at all...Work to live= not live to work0 -
We have a camper van,it's a vw T2 and it's quite small. We have 2 dogs and we decided we didn't want wet dogs in the van,we take them to the beach everyday,so we purchased a beach tent they are not very big and it has a mesh front that zips closed,we put the dogs in it to dry off and thought it might work for other animals,if you had to go to a rescue place maybe you could set it up in a corner and there would be room for cats and their tray and they would be able to see through the mesh,or if you had to live in your car in a emergency situation. It was only £6.99 home bargains.0

That's like the water bubbling up in the road just below DS2's new home, pineapple - it's a bourne all right! We are used to winterbournes round here, rivers that only run in winter; witness half the local place names. But planners & developers do have a tendency to forget where these run, as they're not visible most of the time.
Fuddle, I don't know about your side of town. I know the centre does flood quite regularly; found that out when I was trying to insure my shop! Hence the sandbags everywhere. If you look at the houses down the side of the old sorting office at the top of the Poole Road, you'll see a white line painted at about waist height; that was the flood line before they built the walls that keep the big river more or less on the flood plain. This town used to run on its rivers; there were at least 6 watermills running various enterprises & the buildings, though not the machinery, are mostly still there, as is the big mill race that runs in between the two supermarkets. The out-of-town one that has been restored by the National Trust is a bit of a joke; they've carefully rebuilt the machinery with all the wrong woods because they just wanted it to look good. Apparently it wasn't any cheaper than doing it properly would have been… I'd hazard a guess that you'll stay quite dry; there's quite a slope on those allotments. OH used to have no.1 plot there and it had a distinct tendency to drain west, so the eastern side was quite dry. Not that he was too bothered, all he ever grew there were spuds & horseradish; he just loved it because it was right next to the football pitch & he had a fabulous free view of all the good matches!Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
I've got family in your part of the world Thriftwizard. You've got some fabulous place names
The road is slowly but surely disappearing outside my house. If I can still get out today I will, and pick up half a dozen extra sandbags just in case - I'll do the same every day I can get out, just to be on the safe side!0 -
The road's disappearing outside ours, too, Greenbee, not because it's being covered with water but because it's being eaten away by it… You could lose my C3 down some of those potholes. I am beginning to fear for my axles.
Fingers crossed that it stays away from your home. Friends of mine Ooop North near Shaftesbury are now collecting pillowcases to be used as sandbags Over the Border in Somerset; there are no bags left, although there's still plenty of sand. There's suspicion in the air that all the polyprop bags have been whisked away to wealthier parts of the country...Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0
