apparently the gagging law was passed today....which restricts campaigning near to an election...... not quite sure of the details...38 degrees were campaigning against it..... but its yet another piece of democracy being taken away from us
I don't suppose it has the bonus aspect of stopping politicians campaigning at any time other than an election does it? Because that would make the whole thing a lot easier to swallow...0 -
If only it would!
Interestingly enough, my impoverished social neighbourhood hasn't been leafleted or canvassed by the Tories at all, in all the years I've lived here. The other parties are pestering, esp the LibDemonRats, even door-knocking as late as 7-8 pm on elections days but we never see a Tory activist.
I'd like to see a Tory activist.........swinging gently in the breeze..........:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Yep agree, pity the gagging order couldn't work both ways, and politicians can just be gagged full stop...

I've used the tomato sauce bottles for pickles and chutneys bb, if thats any use for you?
There's something seriously up, i went to buy milk yesterday and the assda (just a small one) was completely packed. Told OH and he said well something must up, maybe we should watch the news more often!
We were discussing china and economy this morning, my eldest said they were chatting about it in mindset. He said how come this is happening when the banks crashed year ago? Why hasn't USA got any money?
what will happen to us?
couldn't really answer him but we said well america will have to take control of its debt as will the current government here.
OH said UK will probably start farming again and copy of New Zealand. Over there NZ produce meat specifically for China and they economy is booming with the rise in population and the lack of farming in china.
Another white sky here no snow just drizzle but its also incredibly dark. Strange0 -

Perplexed, it's very easy. We have an old cooking apple tree overhanging our garden and the neighbour is more than happy for us to use them. I don't know what variety they are - they look like Bramleys but they cook to mush very easily, which is what you want for this. So I just wash them and chop them up roughly, skins cores and all and cook them gently without any added water until they are mushy. If you are using other apples you would probably need to add some water to get them to go soft.
Once they are cooked I put them through a jelly bag to extract the juice (before I had a jelly bag I used a big sieve over a bucket lined with a J cloth which works just as well). Don't squeeze the bag, just let it drip for about 12 hours. Then measure how much juice you've got and add a pound of sugar for each pint of juice and boil until setting point. At this stage I add anything I want to flavour the jelly, like herbs, but chilli is my favourite. I usually use a mix of dried chilli flakes and freshly chopped red chillies because the fresh ones keep their lovely colour but the dried ones add more of a kick. I'm not very scientific about how much I add, it's enough to fleck them and add colour and a kick to the taste. You can add more as it cools and you get a chance to taste it.
I use it for anything I would use sweet chilli sauce for. It's lovely brushed over fish fillets before popping them in the oven and I love it in a cheese sandwich or with sausages and baked potatoesIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
I don't know kez but there's a wiff of unease around. We are keeping wnough in the bank for the dwindling DD's we have and hanging onto the cash that buys us food and water - even DH is now onside with this aspect.
More stocking up here in the coming weeks - it's all I feel I can do. For years I've been learning to prep/OS ways as a hobby/education/making ends meet extra but very soon I suspect things are going to get extremely serious.0 -
The weather is looking iffy up here.
Heavy clouds, light rain, and wind getting up (and me out of Alka Seltzers).

Getting hold of your own money is increasingly difficult, it seems. Had long 'discussion' in branch of bank on Monday re transferring savings to current account (finally had to admit defeat on old car and replace it as can't get to our gainful employment without it so reluctantly draining what savings we have) but faced the hard sell about what was I doing with money, did I want new account (with fat fee - no thanks), did I want loan or mortgage instead. Dh and I are off back this afternoon to carry out transfer, not in the mood for more discussion!!!0

This is a not a particularly poor area, but there's yet another food bank collection at work this week, seems new branches are opening all the time. Have gathered a few items to take in tomorrow, but wonder how long I'll be able to afford to do this.0

Hmmm fuddle definitely something.
People had a look of unease and panic and the sale assistants was saying to me its busier now than before christmas.
I'm hoping natwest doesn't go down.
I bought a raspberry plant and some seeds, as soon as the weather eases up going to start on the garden. Maybe get another rhubarb. Just a case of trying to prepare as much as possible. All we can do0
