I was originally a Lancashire lass but have defected to the dark side - AKA Yorkshire;). I do love it here but fear I will always be regarded as an interloper.
GQ you wouldn't like it. It's spectacularly hilly! My street in on a hill and the top part must be a 1in 5 at least - I walk up it daily with crazy doggy - Good for exercising the glutesOfficial DFW nerd - 282 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'

Well, the Grand Day Out was immense fun, sunshine, happy dogs, a squirrel  and lots of glorious mud. Oh, and excellent brownies.‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

Knew there was something I liked about Yorkshire0 -
in times gone by in m/navy ,every so often a new stock of condensed milk was put into lifeboat lockers and old tins went to galley for rice pudding ect.
a junior deck officer and a cadet had to clean out and examine old tins first.the new tins had paper wrapper removed and tins coated with vasaline to protect against rust ,before storage in locker, over many years never heard of a rusty/faulty tin stored properly [ our lives may depend on them]
read prepper forum WHEN on subject ,even when off subject as info can be of interest.0 -
I live within a few miles of all of these sites as well as Whipsnade zoo, Woburn and many other places of interest
St Peter's, (more commonly known as the Priory) is one of the best examples of Norman church architecture in England. Henry I founded an Augustinian priory at Dunstable In 1131. In 1533 Henry VIII's marriage to Katherine of Aragon was officially annulled at the Priory. Shortly after, the priory was disbanded by Henry in his Dissolution of the Monasteries. However, St Peter's avoided destruction as parts of it were put to use as the local parish church.
St Mary's church was built about 1200 by the local lord, William de Cantelou (or Cantilupe). That Norman building has been altered considerably over the years, particularly in the late 15th century, whe the manor of Eaton passed to Reginald de Bray, a follower of Henry VII. Bray is supposed to be the man who placed Richard III's crown on Henry's head after it was found on a bush at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485. Whether that piece of lore is historically accurae is open to debate, but what is certain is that Bray created a lovely Perpendicular church.Tree Cathedral at Whipsnade. A cathedral of a different sort; a peaceful green space created with different varieties of trees planted in the traditional shape of a cathedral, with wide green avenues forming a nave, chancel, choir, chapels, cloisters, and transepts. The cathedral, which covers 26 acres, was created just after WWI in an effort to foster ‘Faith, hope and reconciliation’.
Pitstone Mill. One of the earliest examples in Britain of a windmill, Pitstone was built in 1627 to a postmill design. The mill, set in attractive Chiltern countryside, has been fully restored.
