I've also got 2 gilets which were DS3's with all the pockets on in army camo which I may be able to repurpose for something useful now they don't fit him..any suggestions??
He went through a phase where the only clothes he would wear had to be camo, even his pants and socksI use one of those gilets for travelling and gardening, situations where I don't want a bag hanging off my shoulder but need to hold a variety of small things close. Would they fit you or another household member? Although I admit mine is plain colour not camo.
Re fabric, ripstop nylon would be lighter and dry more easily but is there a risk it would make the dog sweaty and overheated? Cotton drill would be more comfy but if it got wet, it would take ages to dry and could make the pooch uncomfortable. There's pros and cons whichever way you look at it..........Popperwell wrote: »I have two jerkin/anorack type coats and though I like them I find they cause me to get warm and sweat which is a pity...especially if I wear the rucksack...
I nearly purchased a fleece gilet either in navy blue or black at Aldi and then changed my mind. Wish I'd bought one now...but it was approx £10 and I was thinking about the money but it probably was a good buy...
What's that saying about hesitating? I should have just gone for it!
I know it's a bit late, but they had gilets in 'Peacocks'...

Just a quick question re storing/keeping fermented foods seeing as it's been brought up and I'd like to try to make some.
How long do they keep? Do you keep them in the fridge or are they fine on a shelf somewhere? Once opened what then, fridge, or eat immediately? Thank you in advance.

Peanut butter and all nut butters are far more nutritious than Nutella , which is mostly saturated fat and corn syrup sugar....not very nutritious at all...they have been banned from advertising it as nutritious here and showing a picture of nuts with it as a giant jar only contains ONE hazelnut LOL...the food given to the children to make them gain fat is mostly peanut butter mixed with whey which is protein.
Peanut butter is a good addition to your stores as is honey. They do a sort of paste here which is made of honey, glucose and mastixa....a gum resin that tastes lovely and has anti bacterial and medicinal qualities (and I adore it LOL)..its only a euro for a big tub.
Got some olive oil this morning on offer as I am building stocks up and it keeps well in my cool dark kitchen. Have stocked up on dried herbs and spices as we will need them for flavour if we are living of the stock cupboard in an emergency. Fruit and veg was really cheap today (new grapes were 99 cents a kilo and local apples were just 50 cents a kilo)...but potatoes had shot up to 70 cents a kilo!!!!Scandalous!!!
Found this link about solar cookers, don't know if its any use to any of you but its a very interesting page to read... http://wakeup-world.com/2011/07/06/how-to-build-your-own-cheap-simple-solar-oven/
Off to celebrate my birthday tonight....if the SHTF I will be far happier dealing with it after a nice big steak.....
All sorts of things going on here politically, just when I catch up on one thing something else happens. I think there is going to be chaos here when the new measures are announced. Meanwhile some Greeks in America offered to pay off all the debts and let Greece pay them back at a much cheaper rate of interest, and they would invest in the country as well.....and the government are not even considering the offer. The news was being kept quiet so we have got groups sending it all over the world to let people know about it. It's a disgrace not to consider such an offer.
I think there is going to be very big trouble over it sooner or later...to turn it down and let people suffer more from austerity when they have no medicine, medical care and very little money for food is unforgiveable.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
"SPAM (already mentioned), Windeze (I suffer from terrible bouts of smelly flatulance), gas mask (for reasons just mentioned) and Cheesy Wotsits."
Wow Mrs Doom, that's going to feel like a very long year. Please be very careful if you strike a match.
When do you go [STRIKE]up[/STRIKE] in?0 -
I simply refuse to buy Nutella...unless it's on really, really good discount or sometimes in France when camping to put on crepes. The kids would eat it out the jar with a spoon if they could and it's basically just sugar and fat, not very good fat either. Peanut butter is fat too of course but it's a wee bit more nutritious.Val.0

Quick update...the Troika (inspectors from EU/IMF) have told the Greeks they are taking a weeks pause from the talks in Greece. Next Wednesday there has been a general strike called and the unionists are asking everyone to strike and take over public and government buildings.
After that the power people are going on 48 hour rolling strikes....which means we will lose our power for up to 48 hours at a time...glad I have got fuel and candles in and emergency food etc. You never know what is going to happen next here.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0
