  • Is it wrong of me to secretly fantasize about sealing the bunker from now until early January? ;) We'd be fine now for several weeks, although I'd prefer to wait until Mr O has delivered his stuff tomorrow.

Realistically it ain't going to happen. We're off to deliver godkids prezzies tomorrow, MIL is coming over for our shared birthday lunch on Christmas Eve, we're out to dinner that night, back to MIL's on Christmas morning and OH is working Boxing Day. So it's going to be a bit more sociable than I would probably opt for, although I'm sure I'll enjoy it all. And on Christmas Day, unless there's a really significant tempest, we're going to pack up a picnic lunch, some flasks and probably the odd fleece blanket or two and head off for a car picnic somewhere in the back of beyond. Watching the birds by the river will do me just fine for Christmas lunch, even if it is pretty wuthering that day.

I think I've done much of my sales shopping. All I needed was new undercrackers, as I've shrunk a lot this year, and mine were becoming scarily saggy. So Messrs Magic & Sparkle's 30% off yesterday should help keep my modesty intact. :o

Was in ASDA earlier, and picked up another 5 packs of Cotton Tree Extra Moist Toilet Tissues, from the £1 shelves.

    That's 600 sheets.

Also, I treated myself to the Box Set of Couger Town.

Probably should've invested in a few boxes of Kleenex too. :p

Heavy snow here for the last couple of hours, got some candles lit, Asda has graciously given me some nice posh subs, and I'm happy. Will put this off soon and settle down to a nice spooky scary book. magic ;)

:j:j:j I had to download that, fantastic!

My own personal version might be coming along tomorrow, as I'm one of the ones travelling; I'm taking plenty of food and water, I can tell you that much.

This afternoon, I went and did some supermarket shopping  while the supermarket itself was horrendous, they had both their sets of self service tills open, and I waited all of two minutes before one became available. Thing is, after Tudor Monastery Farm, I've been researching about salt - and I think its a lot more difficult than it was made out to be. Google saltpans, and check out how big they are (there's an area at Lymington on the south coast called Eight Acre Pond, for instance!) so I'm stocking up - if you buy basics, its dirt cheap, I now have 8kg for the princely sum of £2. And I'll be buying more when I get back.

Hope everyone has the Christmas they want - sounds like some have started already, I *love* the idea of pulling up the drawbridge. Have a brilliant time.

:) I must admit I am fairly laconic about sudden outbreaks of cussing, yelling, fighting and general uncouthness. I was trying to read last night and after about 20 mins of that malarkey, got a bit p'd off and went outside to see what was going on. By that time, many neighbours had popped out of their doors like cuckoos out of cuckoo clocks.

We're a bit rough and ready at the Towers but this was causing concern. One of the other neighbours told me SG had called the Polis, and indeed they came screeching in on blues-and-twos as we spoke. Spoke to SG on my way back from the shops today and she told me by the time she got hold of the copshop they told her they'd had lots of calls and units were already attending.

Once the Polis was here, I just went to bed. Was very tired and just thought Dammit, if you wanna take crack, can't you take it in someone elses' neighbourhood. Bet they don't get this up on Acacia Avenue. People who know about these things and saw him reckon that wasn't a heroin high, possibly crack or crystal.

:( Just hope that whatever he'd taken, he didn't buy it here. We know who deals weed but, as far as I know, there isn't a crack house, tho we've had them here before. Such fun - not.

But I do know what you mean about people being over and jumping out of their skins when something kicks off and I barely blink. I grew up on a pretty rough estate (2nd worst estate in the hometown) and have lived in some "interesting" inner city neighbourhoods in various places around the country.

Haven't come to any harm to date, but am a strapping lass and can give the green-eyed evils if I have to..............:rotfl:Plus I have a multi-coloured belt in The Dreaded Origami.*

Sorryimoved, sorry if we're shattering images of Olde Englande (and the rest of the country). You can still find villages with thatched cottages and roses around the doors. They're mostly owned by bankers, or as we spell it over here, bankers beginning with a double-you.:p I'm in the middle of a walled cathedral city. We have tourists from all over the world visit us. Well, not actually visit my neighbourhood, unless they are seriously-lost.

    * The Dreaded Origami is a secret fighting form practised by those who, like myself, have served hard time and earned papercuts in admin-y type jobs. We humble drones pass the secrets of the Origami arts from hand to hand disguised as artful paper animals.

If we are made very very angry, such as someone not changing the photocopier toner cartridge properly, or threatening our mortal selves, we shake off our shackles and turn into Mutant Ninja Admins and use The Dreaded Origami to fold our foes into really painful positions.

Do not provoke us; we're all around you, did you but know, and our day will come.**

** On a Wednesday, as long as that's all right with you?
just wondering if u have a wee bit of scottish in u xxx
  • We've snow too, plus thunder and lightening which is odd - don't ever recall that combination before?
I shalln't be near the shops now until later in January - am working 30/31 but apart from that am off until the 6th. Plan to stay in my own wee world :)
  • Sleet and wind has gone, but the water droplets are freezing on the roofs of the cars, and it's not even 8pm yet.

Gawd knows what it'll be like, tomorrow morning.
  • Hello All

Hope everyone has battened down the hatches looks like its going to blow a right hooley! Make sure your essential preps of chocolate, tea and medicinal alcohol are within arms reach from your safety bunker of the sofa under the security fleecy throw! And that the fires are burning bright along with your candles.

I agree with the posts concerning the greed and commercialism, I too find it quite sickening that it is about how much you have and how much you have spent like some bizaare competition. I work in a Credit Union and I am responsible for over 2000 accounts managing the arrears and having to undertake recovery /legal work when neccessary. For the last couple of months I have also been granting loans, with all the "difficult" decisions being left on my desk by the loans officers. It has astounded me how much people spend on Christmas even when on low incomes or with exisiting debts. I have been doing this work for several years and this year seems as bad as ever. Even people with high incomes are maxed out on several cards, have defaults on accounts possibly CCJ's or just out of Debt Relief Orders or Bancruptcy and they still apply to borrow over £1000 for xmas.
    Anyway rant over!
The only time I have been in Edinburgh for New Year I was still out on New Years Day! I certainly enjoyed that year!! Not sure I was in a fit state to go shopping, I was found by my mates walking down the road eating deep fried Haggis and chips at 6am! I did manage to [STRIKE]sober up[/STRIKE], get less drunk enough to walk to the top of Arthurs Seat in the afternoon but shopping NO WAY!

Today I have been making cakes etc for a childrens party and truffles to give as gifts to my work colleagues. I have finished work but will take in my gifts anyway. I have a £5 Aldi voucher so may venture there tomorrow very early, I have to stock up on a few bits but will buy extra wash powder etc to make the shop up to £40.
My house does look a bit like Santa grotto as I have two young boys who love xmas. I have one real tree and three fake ones dotted round the house but it is a rambling farmhouse so not too overdone. All my decs, cards etc were bought last January or one of the preceding Januarys, the decs come out year after year. I usually walk round the farm cutting ivy and holly but this year I have left the holly to the birds, my big holly bush next to the house is covered in fieldfares ( well I think they are, like big thrushes with a bit of red on) every day and I get more pleasure from them than cutting the holly and putting it in the house.
This year I seem to be more prepared and relaxed than previous ones, I put it all down to this thread! I have bought bargains when I have seen them especially veg, cheeses etc and processed them and popped them in the freezer. My cheeses for christmas will nearly all come from the YS freezer section as will any prawns, sprouts, parsnips, carrots, soft fruits etc either bought when pennies or home grown.
The only prepping I have done this week is to "liberate" two battery hens from my friends farm! It will double my hens but the ducks are laying well.

Anyway keep prepping and batten the hatches for tomorrow!! ELaine
