Evening all.
It's been wild today on the Yorkshire Coast, this morning I drove to work as i had to drop something off (not my usual working day) and was confronted with the roof blowing off!! There were sheets of metal and insulation flying down and across the carpark. It's brand new building - only opened this year! I decided it was best not to hang around, so came back home. This evening the sea overwhelmed the harbour wall and the whole street on the sea front was flooded, into all the shops and arcades! We live about a mile and a half away but it's all uphill so we're quite safe, barring a tsunami, I reckon.
And the woodburner just hasn't been playing today, just smouldering away, don't know what's up with it:(
I'm driving down to see DD3 in Essex tomorrow so hope it's settled down by then. She's on the East Coast too, but I don't think her house is in danger, they're uphill from the sea too.
Off to walk crazy dog then to bed.
Take care folks.Official DFW nerd - 282 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'

They are starting evacuations in our area, but not our road yet.
I think I shall stay up for a bit 'til I am sure they won't be knocking on our door.Spam Reporter Extraordinaire

Scary to hear what people are going through - hope everyone stays safe, glad Mar had enough wool to let her knit the whole day ... there've been such good warnings out, I'm sure there won't be the awful consequences of 1953 either here or in the Netherlands, but still very frightening - even if you are safe, bunking down in a rest centre somewhere is no fun.
Being ever self-obsessedI was thinking about storing my emergency 7 days of no-cook food - I have more than that around, of course, but this is strictly the emergency stuff. I decided to take it upstairs, along with disposable cutlery ... if it ever did get here, that stuff'd be useless sitting in the kitchen - once again, people on the news are saying "it happened so fast" - i.e. *when* it happened.
Glad to hear its a bit calmer way up north now, but a lot of people are still feeling the full impact tonight - stay safe.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Stay safe all. Thinking of those who have had SHTF moments, and those who may experience them tonight.Dor0

Weather forums are saying the weather station up on Aonach Mor recorded wind speeds of over 100mph for 5 solid hours0

Hope everyone is ok. The pictures of Sandwich brought back memories. We used to live on a farm out in Sandwich Bay back in the late 70s, early 80s. The land there was below sea level, and separated from the sea itself only by some sand dunes and a golf course. We used to get quite a few 'odd' weather events there - we were often snowed in during the winter, sometimes for quite long periods (until OH got fed up with it and cleared the several miles of farm track with a fore end loader on a tractor that is
), and had sand storms in the summer. It was ALWAYS windy, even when it was hot, and the soil was almost pure sand, so would just blow about. Farming was 'interesting' there - it had to be managed so that the soil didn't just take off in the wind from the fields when they were cultivated.
The land was drained by 'dykes' which were deep ditches, which our ducks liked, but the sheep regularly had to be pulled out of. OH used to plough up some interesting finds as well. At one time we had a large collection of cannon balls from the Tudor period (I wonder what happened to them :rotfl:) as the farm had actually been under the sea at that time. And occasionally there would be a bomb from the Second World War. The German bombers used to jettison any that they had left on the way back home . When one was found, the army bomb disposal people used to come out and blow them up in a safe place. My children, who were very small then, used to like to stand on a chair and watch out of the dining room window. DS would always ask to go outside to see better :rotfl:
Interesting times, and a beautiful, wild place, but I am very glad we don't live there now! Needless to say we always had plenty of 'preps' in!0 -
Power just went back on, was off when I got up this morning. Had a nice peaceful day and evening with candles
Hope everybody else is okGood to have you check in, Mar, people were missing ya. Was the freezer stuff OK?
I went to bed about 9.30 pm last night as was exhausted. For reasons too tedious to enumerate (in brief, neighbours ) I'm only getting about 3-4 hours sleep each night and was very tired.
Woke up at 03.07 with my heart in my mouth as someone was pounding on a door next to mine. Thought maybe we were being woken by the emergency services as there was a severe flood warning on our river system when I went to bed. It's been lifted now.
But no, it was just usual idiocy but haven't been off to sleep since.
Seems to have been a grim night for many, and I hope that happydays' son gets off the rig soon. Bit of a severe intro to winter rig working. I know it's good money but, by golly, they're brave.
Two more problematic tides predicted so I guess a lot of people will be out of their homes/ at home but on tenterhooks, for this morning and then again this evening/ early hours. Sending them all good wishes.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Sending your neighbours itchy feet GQ so they move on soon
Think freezer is ok for 24 hours if not opened.
Looks a lovely clear frosty morning here, very cold. Just gave the coalman £107  got some extra to fill coalboxes...
Think it bloody ridic that on a night of huge storms and tides, all channels are full of wall to wall Nelson Mandela - people are trying to get news on the weather and floods etc - they could have cut some Mandela coverage.0 -
Itchy feet.
Love it. I wish worse on this particular couple on a [STRIKE]daily[/STRIKE] nightly basis. Spend my days with pounding fatigue headaches trying to earn my crust whilst they keep me up until 3-4 am every night.
I was so happy last night because they weren't home by the time I went to bed, the didn't actually come in at all and are still away, and I could have slept until 7am bar the !!!!!! hammering on the neighbour's door.
Could be one of two doors. If it's the one I think it is, there are some hardcases after the previous occupant - I think he owes some bad people some money. Been gone for months but they probably don't know/ believe that.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Blimey. There's all sorts of shtf, aren't there - I can relate to noisy neighbours, GQ, though mine have quietened down considerably, and its horrible to have that headache. My experience of this area is quite different (i.e. much nicer) now that they're better.
Itchy feet and worse to yours!2023: the year I get to buy a car0
