WLL - I've been in a lift that stopped between floors. And the call button wasn't working. And due to the mobile phone mast being on top of the centre of the building, mobile reception was pretty ropey. The other two people in the lift with me were busy panicking... I was furious when I found out that the maintenance team were aware that the call button didn't work...

Anyway, taking the stairs keeps you fit

I have seen this woman Karen Hudes known as the World Bank Whistleblower on a number of videos. Is she mad, or is there a grain of truth in what she is talking about?
  • The main thing I have learned from here is I REALLY do need to get myself more organised, in keeping my cupboards, paperwork etc in an order that anyone else can see/use.

Checkout the exits from the space you're in, make sure you always know where you are in relation to those exits.
A small torch may help either to help you find your way out or as a location beacon (either if you can't move from where you are, or to help others follow a way to an exit).
    Most importantly, Don't Panic.

and always know where your towel is ...

If your coat or bag is your EDC, then grabbing it before you move makes sense - going back into the building for it really doesn't,

HHGTTG references are always welcome - does the planet being bulldozed make it a prepping book?

Is there any way anybody can prep for a helicopter falling on the roof of a building they're in?
A tin foil hat would surely protect against all :D
Seriously amidst all the crazy theories about this event on conspiracy forums, very few seem to be asking the question - how did we get to the point where we accept that a 'copter patrolling urban areas is 'good for us'? Apart from the debate about surveillance itself, it was always an accident waiting to happen.
Used to work a nightshift in a city centre and there was often a helicopter hovering overhead. I used to think 'goodness, another baddie at large!'
Or maybe not. I would like to know how much is plain surveillance, how much is about catching seriously dangerous criminals and how much is little more than police joyriding at my expense

    :) Morning all.

Our local Police copter has a distinctive livery and can often be seen hovering over the city centre, inc right above my tower block. At very low altitudes, so much so that the noise of the blades is deafening at times. If it fell..............gah, doesn't bear thinking about. I also see it over the allotments. Now, if they were flying at night with heatseeking equipment looking for shed-burglars.......but the resource expenditure wouldn't be proportionate to the financial losses.

I was once rather ticked to be "followed" one weekend afternoon whilst biking thru the park by the Police copter flying in slow circles over me. I initially thought I was imagining it, but no, they were wasting their time and taxpayers' money circling me, Josephine Ordinary, for about 5 mins.

Unless they had an ABP out for a middle-aged woman on a trad pushbike with a shopping basket on the front who'd robbed a bank or summat. Who can know? I was tempted to stop the bike and wave at them. ;)

Having a late start today before going to the allotment. Was going to be out and about earlier but my lovely neighbours were up and about for an hour between 4 am and 5 am and preforce I had to join them in wakefulness. I wouldn't give them my last R*lo, never mind my last bottle of water, should the worst come to the worst.

    ******************

I was watching clips of the crowds fighting over consumer durables with shock and awe, and I was clearly not the only one thinking But what if that was food or water in a disaster? Scary thoughts, indeed.

:o Actually, when I drew my curtains this morning, there was a Police car parked right outside my window. Nobody in it and I don't know which flat they went to. My conscience is clear but I did think, I hope they don't come to my door, bit embarrassing to be still in my jammies at 9.30 am...........:rotfl:

  • Morning all, I think prepping has become a lifestyle for me. I never consider throwing anything away until I've gone through my head for a useful thing to do with it. He Who Knows said the other day don't you think we'd better start using up some of your store cupboard, we've got way too much up there and perhaps he's right. I know I don't actually feel 'safe' unless I have accumulated a certain level of everything and if we fall below that I go into squirrel mode until the stock is back up to normal. I remember once my very level headed elder daughter saying the me Ma you stand and look so far out, you see things coming way before they reach the news, and I understand why you keep so much in to hand, ready just in case. It's the just in case that justifies prepping isn't it? Nothing could possibly be done about something as unforseen and instant as the helicopter in Glasgow but I'd hate not to have made preps for something that was forseen in the assumption that someone else would sort out life for me. I too watched with horror the behaviour of shoppers on Friday scrabbling for goods and actually fighting each other for them, barbaric and just for TVs etc. I hate to imagine what would happen if it was a real situation of life and death and they were behaving the same to get food and water. We don't seem to have self discipline in this country any longer, just Me Me Me I Want it!!!! and I want it NOW!!! and I'm prepared to take any course of action to get it NOW too!!! Much better to have your own preps in place and not have to compete with the rest of the population in the beginning stages of a crisis when law and order is completely out of the picture, Lyn xxx.
