Evening folks,
Did any of you see this video of Gordon Brown and the Elephant when it came out some years ago? I'd love to see the same happen to Cameldung.

Evening all.
Brief skive from cleaning and cooking until my company comes.
AnimalTribe, if you ever get matches which won't strike, as in the stuff on the end just rubs off when you try to strike, just leave them spread out in a warm room for a couple of days.
I did this with a box which had got damp in the lottie shed and they tried out and performed perfectly thereafter. I no longer keep matches in the lottie shed, just take them up as needed.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

AT I tried some of those bottle gardens this year. I had them against the wire of the chicken enclosure.
Herbs and salads worked pretty well.
Will give it another wizz next year but did learn a few things. Firstly I found that the top "water" bottle got pushed down and sometimes blocked with compost. This year I think I will do a few holes so its more like a sprinkler head on a watering can.
Secondly I ignored the you tube instructions and just used compost and I don't think the compost had enough feed in it for the whole summer, which maybe why some stuff I grew didn't do as well as the herbs and salads. The original instructions said to use half compost half manure and I think its needed for the feeding. Although I wasn't strict on adding feed to the water, which I could have done. TBH I gave it a little go to see how it worked, but next year will give it more of a proper try.
Finally tip would be to watch the cut edges of the bottle when you make you planting holes, the plastic ends up really sharp and can cut your fingers, oh and make sure to water and soak the compost before hole cutting as dry compost tends to fall out of the holes lol.
It was the William Van something video I followed.

It's a beautiful part of the world and I wouldn't be anywhere else, but winters are severe and we can be cut off for several weeks. Gales are fearsome and every spring we spend loads of our time repairing storm and snow damage.
Hello there.
I've just been reading a book set in your area. (Paw Tracks in the Moonlight). The author described it all very well, it sounds very beautifulEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Can I ask a quick question RAS, does the nine star get attacked by cabbage whites in the same way that normal broccoli and cauli is?

Ooh, and double check that you have ample means of lighting candles, lamps etc.
Preferably two different means, eg. matches and cigarette lighters.
Also, if you find yourself running low on matches (and have no other means of lighting things), light a candle first, then light things from the candle.
Same applies when lighting a fire.
By lighting a candle, then using that to light the fire, you will only ever need to use one match.
ETA: You can dry damp matches, by running them through your hair.
I obviously can't, but other people can.
