  • I have normal ones, but I'm worried they'll get damp, so I've put 'stay-dry' ones on my 'to buy' list.

Or, you could dip ordinary matches in candle wax.

Or, store the boxes of matches in a clip lock container.

    Evening guys.

I thought you might like to see the mug I have bought as a Christmas present for myself:

I'd buy one for my mother, but she is too depressed about the lack of interest as it is.

I generally find your pics really helpful Bob so a thumbs up for that - but sometimes it gives the impression that you believe the rest of us are a bit 'challenged' - ie I think most people probably know what a clip lock container looks like.:rotfl:

    :) Morning all.

I was vastly amused to notice that the Mad Bushcrafters used Lock n Lock containers for their food supplies in camp (tea/ coffee/ sugar) and then stored them in a sturdy plastic lidded box. I'd never even heard of L'n'Ls until I started to frequent the OS board, but have since been able to get a couple 2nd hand from charity shops and am a convert.

I would say to anyone tempted by the cheapy looky-likey fake lock&locks at £land etc - they're rubbish, so benefit from my experience and don't waste a squid.

If you buy shoes or electrical equipment, you'll often find one or two of those tiddly sachets of silica gel in the packaging to reduce moisture. Worth keeping hold of to store with moisture sensitive non-food preps, perhaps?

You can pour wax from a melted candle into a small box of matches (to cover the heads) and then just scratch the wax off when you're ready to strike them. For outdoorsy survival, three methods of making fire are regarded as the bare minimum to have with you at all times. Hopefully, none of us will have to struggle for our lives in the woods, but sometimes water comes into homes and it's helpful to have a back-up to your back-up, IYSWIM.

Had tidied out my home before my friends came over as had a few preptastic things in plain view, some of which are "projects" which aren't finished. I was amazed how normal I was able to make my home look in a few minutes of determined stashing.:rotfl:

I also realised that the back of the sofa, which touches the wall at the top, leans outward at the bottom, meaning there's a useful bit of space in there which isn't being expoited at all. I plan to stash some more water behind there, with an old tablecloth draped over to keep the dust off.

The day a tiny-home dweller realised she has an unexploited stashing spot is a happy day indeed.;)

A bit off topic maybe but while we are busy preparing for all sorts of eventualities, looking at the recent Glasgow event, who would have thought a helicopter would drop on your head? A reminder that life (and death) can be pretty random so not to get so swallowed up with doom/bad things, that one ceases to appreciate the here and now. :)

:( Those poor souls in that pub, and their loved ones. :(

We often have the Police helicopter hovering low over our city centre, often over Shorbox Towers, which is a rather nefarious neighbourhood. Hope it never drops out of the skies onto us.
