Just taken delivery of my solar charger and, although I haven't tried it yet (not much sunlight after 8pm
), it looks just the job.
Size is a compact 10.5cm by 7cm by 3cm closed but, thanks to a folding lid carrying a second solar panel, it boasts an impressive 95.76 square centimetres of charging surface.
Weight empty is just 124g.
It comes complete with a lead for connecting to a USB port, for home (or even in car) charging, and has a socket for plugging in USB leads from phones, iplayers etc., to allow them to be charged/run from the batteries in the charger.
You can even use it to charge/run devices, by inserting a set of non-rechargeable batteries, provide you don't try to use the unit to charge them.
Not bad for £20.0 -

Don't worry, they don't have a shelf life (allegedly they do have a shelf life while sitting on the shop shelf). I've bought quite a few packets that have ceased to exist before they make it home (Herself and nephews), therefore they can't have a shelflife as they never make it to a shelf
I've just cleaned the remains of a tin of grapefruit from a kitchen cupboard, stored with no dents or visible damage, it exploded with almost two years of shelf life remaining. I obviously hadn't checked that stock often enough.0 -

Too much work on at the moment so have been trying to keep up with the thread and not posting much. However have done a bit of a stock-take and bit-by-bit picking up of useful supplies has resulted in a reasonably substantial stash of basics like rice, pulses and cereals so that I think we could manage for a couple of months on the stuff we have in now (before developing scurvy due to lack of fresh fruit and veg :rotfl:).
I say substantial, for us it is but it's nothing I'm sure compared to Wondercollie's basement (ooer missus) of which I'm deeply envious.0 -

Just watched Tudor Farm, which was quite interesting - cheers for the heads up... Though I found myself wondering more about the equipment they were using, like what kind of axe is that? what are you using to coppice and chop down down trees?, how do you do that?, etc, etc...
Got a thinkin' after the post about storing 2 years worth of food. I've got lots in but I thought, what could I really make with it so as not to get bored if all I could eat was store cupboard food. So I did a menu plan and got to 25 different main meals I thought was possible that we'd all like. I have realised that I need a bit more variety in my stores so will be addressing that over the next few weeks/months. I thought I would try to store the ingredients for a months worth of main meals together and then do another and another IYKWIM, so I can see at a glance how long I'm covered for. I'm fairly confident that there will be opportunity to add fresh produce to the mix - I have an allotment, chickens and I know quite a few foragable (if that's a word?) wild plants, but I suppose you never know do you?Official DFW nerd - 282 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'

For savoury popcorn I sprinkle it (when popped) with cardamon powder, which I buy already ground from an Asian supermarket - and maybe a teeny bit of chilli.
I like cinnamon as well. Used to do "pink" popcorn for the kids. Pop the corn plain, and get a zip lock type bag or a plastic tub with a lid. Throw some icing sugar in the tub/bag with a couple of drops of food colouring-ours like pink. Add in some popcorn and seal/add lid, then shake it up. The popcorn has to be still warm so the sugar/colour mix sticks to it.
Gives it a sweet taste without being too sickly sweet.
