Apparently, there are two 99p stores in Northampton.

    Have you tried them both?

I wasn't aware of that! Thankyou (again), I will see where the other one is and give it a try!

I'm certainly not seeing any sign of recovery here - really think things are going to get much better before they get worse, and never have and never will trust any financial institution. I wouldn't trust my financial wellbeing to anyone, to be honest. Don't mean to be doom-monger but don't think we've seen the worse by half.

Was reading earlier about bargains to be had in pound shops and regretting not having access to them, but as the day has gone on i'm actually quite glad, as I think they'd just encourage spending that I don't want. I've managed fine without gadgets and shall do so this winter too when the power goes out etc - do like those solar lamps though! and am impressed with Bob's lamp experiment

oh dear! edited to add of course I meant things will get worse before they get better!! duh!

  • That's another job done.

I've completed my stillage, and now have 50L of fresh water, safely stored off the ground.

Had to cut the timber by hand, as the weather was so bad I couldn't use my electric chop saw outdoors.

Not the neatest job (I'm no carpenter), but effective.

That reminds me - I have a 50lt aqua roll, sat in my caravan - empty.

That seems mad now. It isn't easy to get at, but I think we probably should. Even if the water were only fit to flush the loo, it would help somewhat.

If you promise not to laugh at my crap carpentry, then I'll think about it.

Why would the water only be fit for flushing the loo

We don't usually drink the water from it - unless it's been boiled. We haven't treated it over the years and it is now 15 years old (plus it goes through a similarly untreated caravan system). if I am storing water in it for a while, it would have to be a last resort thing to drink it, I have bottled water for that.

:) Being only a very indifferent bodgy-type carpenter myself, I wouldn't dream of laughing at anyone else's carpentry skills.:)

A thorough bleaching should do the trick.

My water storage containers were bleached and drained before filling (and will receive the same treatment, each time the water is changed). The water should be OK for a few months but, if there's any doubt, it'll get a bleach dose, before being drunk.
