I work at a church sale every week. I had to come off the stalls and go to sorting out because I'd get so annoyed. Everything is sold off quite cheaply and yet people pretty much expect something for nothing. One lady when asked for £1 for inline skates slammed them down and said "you're too expensive" and stormed out. One lady had a pile of clothes, walked around then came back to a different staff member (who thought she'd paid) asked for a bag and walked out without paying. Now we're talking about all clothes around 50p, not real CS prices.
My mum heard people outside tell their friends "tell them it's for someone who's a single mum you'll get it cheaper".
It really takes the mick but I love to help those that really need it and some of the stuff goes for free to folk who have nothing and the money raised goes to help with decorating/household tasks and lots of other great community projects - so I hide myself away and try not to get too grumpy at the few who spoil it.My dog: Ears as high ranging in frequency as a bat. wasn't best pleased when he sneaked up behind me in the kitchen and put his freezing hands around me to warm up lol.
I'm not even going to ask, which bits of your anatomy, he warmed his hands on.
Reminds me of the advice, for warming frost nipped feet, in a survival situation.
The advice is to put them on a friend's bare stomach.
You could imagine the friend's reaction, to a pair of freezing size 10s being planted on his/her naked bread basket. :eek:0 -

Mrs Bale is the housekeeper of Lionel's father, in As Time Goes By.
Her interests include the shipping forecast, and Australian Rules Football.
When Jean asked Lionel, if Mr Bale had ever been to Australia, Lionel replied that she hadn't even been to the English Channel.I'm glad Buggalugs has shown her face.
She comes and goes whenever she feels like it.
She's back in now, asleep on the bed, after failing to con me out of a second bowl of food.
ETA: You asked for a photo, well, this is the best I can do, as I had to use the maximum digital zoom on the camera, because she doesn't appreciate having a camera pointed at her.
As you can see, she's even giving me a dirty look, at that distance.0 -
Well, 91 hours (edited due to my dodgy maths
) in, my LED lantern is still putting out light.
This has got me thinking.
If you bought a couple of these Lanterns, two sets of ASDA rechargeable AA batteries (£7-50 for a pack of 4), and a solar charger, you wouldn't need to pay, to light your home.
Total cost of the equipment would be £37.
I wonder how long it would take, to save that much in mains lighting costs?0 -
BOB she's a lovely looking cat, thanks for the piccie, Lyn x.0

Worked out a few days ago that a standard light bulb ran for 6 hours a quarter and at an average of 2 hours the remainder of of the year would cost about £6 per year.0

Got really fed up today, 3 weeks on and we still haven't heard from the company's surveyor to come and look at the chimney, plus they can't fit until after Christmas :(So we decided to try another local firm today, we went into the showroom at 1pm and we were given a cup of coffee while we were talking to the salesman, their surveyor was on the doorstep at 3.30pm
they are a much better firm, it will cost an extra £400, but that includes sweeping the chimney, a fully fitted slate hearth, a fan that pumps the heat around the room , a meter to measure the water levels in wood, a stove pipe thermometer, a carbon monoxide detector and a few other extras and it is being fitted on the 20th of this month
just got to get some logs and coal in now
Bob I am glad that your !!!!! turned up safe and well.
Our old cat disappeared and never came back, we think that she went away to die
