13 hours on, and my 99p LED lantern is still lit, although not quite as bright as when it was switched on last night.
I reckon a set of batteries should be good for at least 2x6 hour evenings.0 -

I work at a church sale every week. I had to come off the stalls and go to sorting out because I'd get so annoyed. Everything is sold off quite cheaply and yet people pretty much expect something for nothing. One lady when asked for £1 for inline skates slammed them down and said "you're too expensive" and stormed out. One lady had a pile of clothes, walked around then came back to a different staff member (who thought she'd paid) asked for a bag and walked out without paying. Now we're talking about all clothes around 50p, not real CS prices.
My mum heard people outside tell their friends "tell them it's for someone who's a single mum you'll get it cheaper".
It really takes the mick but I love to help those that really need it and some of the stuff goes for free to folk who have nothing and the money raised goes to help with decorating/household tasks and lots of other great community projects - so I hide myself away and try not to get too grumpy at the few who spoil it."A strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others" Barnyard the children's film.

Morning all.
Haven't been around for 24 hours as was feeling a bit too pathetic to sit at the pooter last night and laid on the sofa reading a thriller. Ann Cleeves, a tip from our Mardatha, highly recommend her if you like thrillers.I'm a devious-minded habitual thriller reader and can often guess whodunnit, but she surprises me every time.:rotfl:
daftmummy, you seem to have the same lurgy as me, half the council and a fair bit of the general public in this city, if the calls I have been having yesterday are anything to go by. I feel like someone has sandblasted my throat but am slightly improved on yesterday, so hope you and any otehr poorlies will soon be on the mend.
Bob, thanks for the pic of that lamp, I will try and get one for my Nan. I have noticed that not all 99p Stores have the same things in at the same time, but I may strike lucky. It's always good to have a "consumer report" as some cheapo stuff is pretty darned good and some is a waste of space and I don't like wasting money. Heck, you can get a choccie bar (or two) for less than a squid, if you shop wisely.I have decided that I really need to inventory the candle stash, as it is in several different places. I have lots of boxes of Cook's Matches and some lighters. I need to practice using the lighters as I'm not and never have been a smoker.
Can I ask anyone who has one of those clicker-type doodads for lighting their gas ring; do they work to ignite other things, for example, a candle? I haven't got one to practice with as my cooker has a battery powered ignition, with a single AA battery lasting for about 8 years.
When I was in the shop the other day, I had a bit of quandry about battery sizes and types. I don't have much on battery power; bike LED lights, torches (also have wind-up torches) and my wind-up/ solar/ battery radio and these are all AA and AAA.
I thought that it would have been much easier if I'd had a little card in my purse telling me what runs on what and the inventory level at home. Exp bearng in mind that I may be shopping in a hurry.
I also picked up a tip from a prepper site about having about 3 feet of gaffer tape (aka duck/ duct tape) wrapped around an otherwise redundant storecard or similar and stored in you wallet so you always have an emergency supply. I did this and it doesn't create much bulk at all.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I was fairly close to Leyland this afternoon, picking up a car from Clayton-le-Woods.
I live on the other side of Lancashire, in Bury MBC.
Definitely neighbours then lol. You will probably know Rivington then, we often walk out there and drive out that way. Used to live in Chorley when kids were little. CLW is just a hop skip and a jump away lol.

:grouphug: need someone to snuggle, have a stinking cold and feel so bunged up. Have cover myself in vapour rub ( a few years out of date but seems fine ) and am in bed. It was too cold to take kids trick or treating ( I only go to people I know ) so got the kids some sweets and let them have my t.v in their room so they could watch a DVD. Due to infection control:D:whistle: I have turn my lights and door bell off to reduce the spread of my cold to local kiddies. It has nothing to do with the fact I have no-more sweets in stock and am to skint to get any.
I always have plenty of vapour rub in, apart from the obvious there are loads of uses. See one list here http://simpleesue.com/top-tips-for-today-20-uses-for-vicks-vaporub/
As an asthmatic I find it really helps relieve chest symptoms when inhaled.
I have tried the foot thing for coughing and it did seem to help a bit. Also used for sinus headaches-some under the nose and some on the temples.
We started out trick or treating and the kids got quite a few sweets etc then it started to really come down with rain, so we gave up early and went home to warm up.
We only go to people we know or those who are obviously "taking part" ie. pumpkins ghosts etc in the window.
One enterprising neighbour we know was giving out Halloween cupcakes she made along with business cards for her cake business lol.

There's 2 types of gas cooker lighters ones that produce a spark and ones that produce a flame; I think the one that we have (flame type) came from H. Bargains. The only sorted stash I have is the candles, I did that a couple of weeks ago
And thanks for the tip about the duck tape, I think we need another roll if I transfer some to my wallet.‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.
