Did you get four candles and some Os, while you were there? :p
;) I managed to resist. Along with the hammer (Stanley brand), I also purchased a bottle brush and 10 cup hooks.

And what weird and wonderful things could I make with those.......hmm.

craigyw, OMG, what a to-do. You must be seriously-vexed, but at least it wasn't stinky apple mush and glass sherds all over your pantry.

Been playing on the allotment this aft, then home, self in bath. Hairwash after bath, clothes and towel in washer and ready to start the week all shiny clean. For Bob, I am currently modelling my red and white gingham jammies, apparel so boring that it probably qualifies as a contraceptive.:rotfl:

Fuddle, you're brave having a go with one of the mooncups. I've just hit the change and am looking forward to the end of that business and that'll be some pennies saved, yay! Good job I didn't buy one of those a year or so ago, was thinking about it but decided not to.

:o I would like to share a small triumph with you. Actually, it's not a small triumph, its 9 inches long and 6 inches in circumference (oo-err missus). The first carrot of 2013. The first decent carrot I have grown in 5 years of trying.........and there are others just as big lurking. It's making this simple-minded prepper very happy. Will be eating it any minute now with hg spuds and half an FB pie (which isn't homegrown).

:j It hasn't even got carrot fly! And I did nothing to prevent it - other than growing lots of calendula nearby.

  • Hi all,

Been lurking for a while. Have started small preps, using nectar points in Argoi!
    • small gas cooker
    • gas cylinders
    • candles
    • foil sleeping bag things
    • wind up radio (amazing in the garden)
    • wind up torches and lanterns
    • food stash - just run down and renewed
    • water stash (mainly in boot of car)
    • months worth of our meds
    • water carriers- using stand pipe
We need to have a BOB, as have mainly planned for bug in situation.

We are also prepping for retirement... following Mr Moustachio (sp) ideals. You only get rich spending less than you earn!

So we have downsized our flat, cancelled Virgin, and got PAYG phones. We still enjoy wine and good food so could tighten belts further if needed.

Ideal plan is buy a little place by the sea now, and rent it out. Have started looking. And at some point move there.

Looking at everything either OS or MMM helps so much. No need for gadgets/fancy hols etc. Our luxury is our pets!

Also thinking of investing in a menstrual mooncup. I should get my money back after 5 months and no waste/need to source sanitary products.

They are definitely worth it! Be sure to get the correct size though. The mooncup helped me have way fewer and way less painful cramps (I'd normally be doubled over in pain nursing a heating pad) as well.

Over in the TTC thread, we joke that getting a mooncup is a nearly sure fire way of getting pregnant and not needing it again (or at least needing to buy a different size)! I was only able to use mine for 3 months before I got pregnant. :o

I tend to worry about SLS and nasties in toiletries but will go look at what is in the baby shampoo.. thanks craigy.

I was wondering what the 'eck you were going to say then GQ. Well done

I'll be honest, the mooncup scares me especially as I was er, butchered by DDeldest but I think have to try it. Thanks for the views on it folks
  • FUDDLE the best way to have a good all over wash is to have a bowl bath. Get yourself a cheapy washing up bowl specially to keep in the bathroom and fill it in the bath with water the right temperature for you and get yourself a sponge, a plastic jug and whatever soap/gel you're going to use to wash with. Stand in the bath with the bowl beside you, sponge plain water over yourself, then lather up the sponge with the soap and wash yourself all over. Get a jugfull of water and wash the sponge then sponge off using clean water from the bowl. Finish by using the clean jug to splosh the clean water left in the bowl as a rinal rinse. It's as good as a proper bath, specially when it's hotter in the summer and only uses 1 bowl of water. I sometimes wash my hair too at the very beginning as it's short now and it saves no end of water in the long run. No one's complained I smell yet!!! Lyn xxx.

I've one and it's great. My cycle is 3 weeks long, so I've saved a fortune. It's also much more comfortable than any other supplies designed for internal use :o and no risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome. Plus - as DD was a very quick birth and wrecked my innards (3 prolapses - hurrah) it keeps everything in place during a time when hormones make it more likely to collapse. Sorry if TMI folks - but it is a SHTF prep of the most basic nature.

:) Hello and welcome to the naughty step, good to have you aboard.

Sounds like you've made a cracking good start there, and so clever to use the Nectar points, like getting the stuff for free, eh?

It's smart to downsize, to my way of thinking. Better to have more time and less stuff. Stuff requires dusting (or so I've been told ;)). And you can't take it with you.

Fuddle, that carrot was so ridiculous that it was just inviting dodgy jokes. Have eaten it now, steamed in chunks. Nomnomnom.

ETA; lobbyludd, we need to know these things and if not here, where? The lads like Bob and nuatha can hold their own in mostly female company.........;p
