I was having a lot of trouble with Chrome this week - it was freezing and juddering - almost unusable. There are some websites that you simply have to use other browsers for eg the State Pensions website won't work when you ask for a forecast if you are using Chrome but it's fine with FF - they told me that when I phoned up because I couldn't get the forecast online.

Only thing that keeps me with Chrome is that it's very easy to bookmark a page and that's the way I keep track of threads on MSE, in a folder called "Threads I am following" (original innit?) because the subscribe function seems a bit hit and miss. When I have finished reading the posts on a thread I bookmark the page then delete previous bookmarks so when I open it up again I go straight to the first unread post. I couldn't see how to do that in FF.
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

ooh, sorry about double post - no idea what I did (Probably Chrome's revenge for me being rude about it!)

    They all do.

Piezo ignition use either Lead zirconium titanate, or a quartz crystal, which, when hit by a spring-loaded striker, deforms, generating a voltage.

The voltage jumps the gap between an electrode and the burner assembly, igniting the gas.

And there's a lot of hobs described as piezo which require either a battery or mains electrical supply. Unfortunately its become a generic term for pressing a button to get a spark rather than retaining its original identity.

:) Y'know, I love this site so much, the stuff I learn is incredible. Just wish I could de-frag my brain and lose some of the carp to make room for more. Surely there's a way of dumping 1970s advertising jingles and pop lyrics to make way for worthier stuff?

Am loving FF thus far. Much smoother and faster than I.E. on the same sites. In fact, I'm so entranced I'm not even washed and dressed yet, the shame of it. Must go get ready to face the day and do some chores.

Never mind the zombie apocalpse, atm I'm in danger of breaking a leg crossing the living room.:p

Hmmm, I like the sound of this ad-blocking thing Ghostery, if someone can tell me where to find it; have had FF all of 10 mins and wobbling slightly over where things are. I didn't realise I was such a creature of habit, having only ever used I.E. (a pox on all their houses).
It's not so much of an ad blocker as a cookie tracker blocker - which I suppose however could ultimately be the same thing.
I've also got webmail ad blocker and adblock plus - but one of my favourite add ons is reminder fox (useful for those senior moments! :D).

GQ, you may find that some sites don't work on FF - form filling is often a bugbear - at which point you use IE instead. Simples. ;)

  • It would be a very different situation today. Power cuts would be a disaster, not just a crisis. We are so much more dependent on electricity for every conceivable sphere of human activity. I could not write this article from my laptop, for a start. Broadband would not work. Phones need charging. The whole computerised world, on which modern civilised life depends, would come crashing down around our ears.

I know I shouldn't (and it's probably a bit unkind of me), but am I the only one on here, who feels a touch smug, knowing I'll be able to cope better than most?
