Not always, some do some don't, of those that don't another potential problem is a flame failure device, which makes lighting with a match or lighter more difficult - most of these can be overcome by having already lit the match/lighter before turning the gas on, though the time to check and practise is before you need it to work first time.Whats rolling blackouts? Will the water still pump? Want to be prepared as have a baby in the house so starting a list!
Rolling blackouts are one area at a time, moving to the next area after a fixed interval - usually easier to plan around as they times are likely to be notified in advance and the duration is known. There's also the possibility of brownouts, a reduction in voltage - lights would be dimmer, anything motor driven could potentially overheat and burnout (this includes fridges and freezers).COOLTRIKERCHICK wrote: »I will prep for this, just incase it does happen, or could it be the energy companies playing games, as the government wants to put a freeze on energy price hikes, so they will have 'rolling blackouts' and say they can not afford to buy in more electric because of the increase in global energy prices etc ( hope that made sense). We have caravans, so we can use cook etc in there, and we also have a genie, so will have to make sure we have fuel for that.
If they do, do rolling blackouts, does this mean the fuel pumps at the petrol stations will not work??? store tills etc will not work??
Would they do the power cut in the nights? or during they day? because they can:mad::eek::eek:

Rolling is likely to be 2-4 hour duration* and nothing which relies on mains electric is going to work. Its likely that some cuts will be daytime and some at night. Its quite possible that you could have cuts severl times per day, eg 8am -12 noon and 8pm - 12 midnight. the next day/week could be 12 noon - 4pm and 12 midnight to 4am.

thank you nautha:beer::beer:
I think I better get my act together then:cool:.. I do have candles around in various places etc.. Think My problem is getting things organised, and in one place...
We have an awkward area by the front door, so we have put shelves up, for the bike helmets etc, so I think I will get some see through storage boxes, and put the candles, lighters, tourches etc in them...
Hubby laughs when ever the pepper programmes are on tv,ok some of the peeps are a bit ott with their reasoning for being a prepper, But for me I am prepping for when I can afford food etc,
EDIT..... even though my parents will think I am nuts I will do a little preppers electric blackout kitWork to live= not live to work0 -
There's nothing nuts about being ready in case the elect goes off
Mind and store candles and matches together in the same box. Have wee jars or saucers to stand candles in cos they're messy. And always stand them in front of mirrors (but leave a wee gap for heat).

Shelves by the front door sounds like an ideal place to store torches, both from the point of view of prepping, but also handy for going outside.
You could always argue that you are just reacting to the Electric Companies' news, after all if they are warning of blackouts this winter its hardly OTT to be prepared.0 -
Ooooooooooh, I now have FF but my pooter is showing text a bit differently, even here on MSE. Is that usual?
It's nothing bad, just a bit different. Thank you all so much for your electronic handholding. I'm a bit PICNIC, if you know what that means, but trying to fight it.:rotfl:
Managed to open up a ZH article so will probably be gone for some time.
Can't recall who is was whose parents thought she was nuts for prepping, but join the club. Mine think I'm a bit daft. They did allow me to stash two wine boxes full of candles at their home, for their own use in a pwoercut. I've tried to posit that a household of three (my disabled brother lives with them) with not much stored food and water would be in trouble quite quickly, but it's fallen on deaf ears so far.
Hmmm, I like the sound of this ad-blocking thing Ghostery, if someone can tell me where to find it; have had FF all of 10 mins and wobbling slightly over where things are. I didn't realise I was such a creature of habit, having only ever used I.E. (a pox on all their houses).
ZH seems to think I would be interested in meeting young Asian women. It used to keep trying to flog me 30-something former cheerleaders. That and comedy teeshirts. I shudder to thing what about my browsing history leads their program into thinking those would be interesting to me.
Weird, the rolling smiley and clapping, jumping and beer smilies are all moving more quickly. GQ joins the modern era, whoda thunkit?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

You need to put mouse up to the very top of the screen, click ALT, find TOOLS at top of page, then ADD ONS. In there, search for "ad blocker" - that's what I've got. Also up there when you hit ALT is HELP. Sit and read through the sections in there, it's very clear and good.0

Which one do you have, Mar, there's 27 of them?! Does it stop those annoying ads on the sides and top of ZH?
I'm enjoying my holibobs, it's great drinking tea and eating a bacon butty when I'd normally be at w*rk.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
