But I'm ticked off about ZH. I like that site. Not all of the articles, not all of the commentators, but plenty to enjoy. And I.E. cannot display the webpages on the three separate occasions I have fired this pooter up today? It could yesterday and unless it can tomorrow, I shall be installing a new browser. Are you using I.E.? Short_bird said she could get it using Chr0me. Anyone use Firefox and can you get ZH atm?
I'm not having my reading material determined by a poxy program.

Hi GreyQueen,
I use FF and can get on ZH fine - just thought I would let you know.
Haven't read the rest of the posts yet as I start at the end and work back hehe, so forgive me if I mention something that has already been discussed but I was concerned to hear on the news this morning about power cuts this winter/ the potential for them last winter. I started stocking up on candles, solar lights and gas heaters during last winter thanks to the heads up from here, so it seems I shall keep doing so ready for this year.Spam Reporter Extraordinaire

Lots of foraging going on here, in between other distractions; within a few hundred yards of here I can find blackberries, crab apples, wild apples, hazels, sloes, elder, hops (gone over now) greengages & bullaces; there are also hips, haws & rowanberries should I feel the need for any. In spring & summer there's wild garlic, garlic mustard & comfrey as well as elderflowers. A little further out I can find black walnuts (excellent dyestuff, as well as good eating!) & sweet chestnuts as well as field mushrooms. I also forage urban gardens; I knock on doors & ask politely whether I can take windfalls, and am often greeted with delight & asked to pick & take whole crops! I always return some of the resulting produce, though. One of my current favourite things are Japonica quinces, which make a fabulous jelly; bush owners often think they're poisonous, probably because the raw fruit is so tart it dries your mouth out. And there's an enormous pear in the town centre which produces gigantic, rock hard fruits; the only sensible thing to do is to make a sweet pickle with them. After a couple of months they just melt in your mouth...
It's astonishing, what's lying around more or less for free round here. I doubt it'd keep the whole town going, but a fair number of them would rather die than eat anything they didn't have to pay through the nose for anyway. Off to start some cider from 3 huge bags of freebie windfall apples now...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
I don't kid myself that my internet presence is significant enough to have offended anyone. If I want to cause offense, I'm in a city of close to 200,000; plenty of people to offend against in some way, shape, manner or form.

Thanks GQ. Yes, I am using I.E. I packed up Chrome about a year ago, as (weirdly in view of owning Youtube) it made Youtube stutter on my machine.
There is one way to view the Zerohedge articles that I have found:
You wait for them to come up, then press 'PrtScn' quickly before they disappear. Then open Microsoft Paint, and press Ctrl 'v'. The saved text will then show. (Mad solution, I know.)0 -
GQ Glad you enjoyed Archery. My DS does it and I have toyed with the idea of having a go too, I already invade rifle club tho
Not much eye candy at either of them unfortunately, mostly older blokes with beer bellies:rotfl:
I had a go at axe throwing at the bush craft festival, wasn't much good at that but was fun, sadly there doesn't seem to be any axe throwing clubs locally:rotfl:
A guy at rifle club lives on the edge of farmland and occasionally shoots deer, he's got me a couple of pelts that I'm going to have a go at tanning them to make buckskin. Also discovered that he is clearing some woodland and has firewood for sale cheap, so have put in my order;)
Am living out of my store cupboard this month as I managed to spectactularly exceed my overdraft last month and get stung with £85 in charges, big ouch:eek:Official DFW nerd - 282 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'

Thanks, Wyre.
I've got I.E. because it came with the pooter, have successively updated it over the years but not too happy about the ZH business. Always thought it ZH and certain other alt.news websites suddenly went dark, it would be time to empty the bank accounts and buy a lot of tins and hunker down.
Hokay, begging your indulgence, but from whence does a person "get" a new browser? Say FF? A pal mentioned yonks ago that she uses it and likes it. Apparently it gives FaceAche go-faster stripes. Not that I'm on the dreaded FB, unless you count my gurning presence in a few group photies at various social gatherings in public houses across the city.
The cheaper public houses, at happy hour; cocktails on BOGOF, what's not to like? Trouble is, the happy snappers capture me with my nose in a glass and before I know it, I have a rep as a [STRIKE]dipsomaniac[/STRIKE] err social butterfly.
Truth be told, I'm a sofa and cuppa tea at home kinda girl.
Do you purchase such things? Or are they downloadable for free? And does their arrival just elbow I.E. into some dusty corner of the hard drive, or do I have to do something to make the pooter recognise the new prog on the block?
Sorry if this is simple minded stuff but I genuinely don't know. I'm off to chill with a book before bedtime. It's on prehistory and is very interesting.
Til tomorrow, my lovelies, GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I think most of them are free GQ. You just have to search for them online. You can have multiple browsers installed. Just use whichever one seems to work. I deleted Chrome because of course it uses resources on my computer whether it is used or not.0 -
Google (or other search engine) mozilla firefox GQ. It is free and I love the adblock (free) feature that I also downloaded.Spam Reporter Extraordinaire

Yes, just google firefox, download it and its got a help section that covers everything. I can see zerohedge and I'm on FF.0

GQ, I use both FF and Chrome, you can just download them and at installation tell Windoze which you want to be the default browser. You can also get FF as a portable version which you can run off a USB stick. I use the FF add-on Ghostery to block trackers and ads which reduces the loading time for webpages. ZH working ok for me.
Thinking about blackouts and replacement lighting solutions, my thoughts are that it would be best to go with natural hours of daylight as far as possible, and in an extended period without power use candles sparingly and reserve more convenient sources of light like lanterns and torches for emergencies and, er, "tactical" situations.0 -
I'm offline for a few days and it takes me nearly a whole day to catchup (and will take me longer to comment on some of the posts)

See if you can find a Viking or Anglo SAxon reenactment group, I've know several (informal) axe throwing groups that are part of that end of reenactors. Thanks, Wyre.

The UK English version of Firefox is here. Once you've downloaded it and installed it, just run it, it will ask if you want to make it your default browser, if you say yes, then it will automatically run when you click on a link or url shortcut. It will offer to import your favourites from Internet Explorer, worth doing unless you have an excellent memory. Setting your home page information here and you can have multiple homepages opening when you launch the program.0
