    Cocoa in tins, there's posh!

Ehh, when I were a lass, we wuz sent down the cocoa mines fer 16 hours a day to chisel ower cocoa out of the earth. 'Ad ter sift it thru ower winceyette nighties ter mek it drinkable. There wuz them worse of than us; they 'ad to pan for their cocoa from the tailings outside in the rain 'n tha was weak an' runny, tha knows.

Ahem. I have had very little sleep for the past several nights (neighbours, bless them, grrr) so please excuse me.

NURSSEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's broken out in dialect. Lots of different ones jumbled togather. Get tea immediately before a meltdown occurs.

    Todays Challenge
to fit your own family and situation. day5title1.png
The wiring in your house has gone haywire due to an electric fire in your circuit panel. Your stove and the rest of the kitchen circuits have been affected. You cannot cook in your kitchen until a repairman comes out to fix it tomorrow. Keep your fridge closed to preserve your food as much as possible.
Goal: Practice powerless cooking techniques today dlt.png
    Today’s Tasks:
    • Cook all your meals and snacks today without using electricity
    • Wash your dishes by hand (no dishwasher!)
    • Make a fuel inventory and estimate how many meals you can cook using the fuel you have on hand
    Today’s Limitations:
    • For this day, and ALL days of the challenge: no spending money, no going to stores, and no restaurants
    • You may only open your refrigerator ONE TIME today (choose wisely!)
    • You cannot use any appliances in your kitchen to cook
    • No plugging in appliances in other rooms (that’s cheating!)
    Advanced Tasks:
    • Make a batch of bread using no electric tools
    • Build a simple stove or oven you could use to cook with no power (some ideas and tutorials can be found at this link)
The washing up by hand made me laugh I do that all the time.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

:) Grinning at that about making bread without electric tools. That's something I do a couple of times a week anyway.

A bowl, a pair of hands and a jug for the hot water and a baking sheet to put the rolls on. Even the oven is gas.

Was at the charity shop late yesterday afternoon and got another hi viz waistcoat for 50p and a work-apropriate blouse for 50p also. Plus............ta dah!...........a Lock n Lock plastic storage container for 90p. Which is 10p more than I paid for my other L n L but still highly acceptable.

Right, better have a bit more brekkie, think I need an egg. You can go to work on an egg. I usually walk, but it is Friday after all.

******Wanders off to find my egg-riding jodhpurs and hard hat but decide to leave the stick at home as this is a co-operative looking egg and should prove tractable.*********

:) Akshully, I realised that it isn't a Co-Operative egg at all, it's one from Icelandia.

Therefore it isn't one of the riding eggs. So I smacked on the side of the pan and am frying it.

;) One sick bunny, eh? I did eat a horse once, in Forn Parts. Took me aaagggessss.

Aw great guys. Really entertaining catch up with my cuppa but thought provoking too :D

Kevin Mccloud's man made home is back on TV (Sunday evening I think) and although he's moved he man shed to the coast, he gets up to all sorts of off grid/self sufficient ways of living. Again entertaining, a good laugh but also thought provoking planting seeds of 'ah yeah, i'll remember that in case I need it sometime.' This week - fuel out of fish oils.

I don't know what's worse the thought of the bank getting my bit savings or the ruddy mice! I need a jam jar and quick, although basics will do as there won't be much accumulated in there and pretty soon we'll have zilch as the rental agents are about to charge hundereds for clicking a few buttons, calling a few people and printing a few sheets. Huhum, life is full of hands ready to nick your money eh?
