We will not be able to expect help from any of the PTB
But this is more worrying

It is. Seems like we're entering stage 3.
That list made me wonder if it would be worth holding a small amount of foreign currency(s) in addition to gold, and some pounds.
I'm thinking if the pound collapsed, maybe TPTB would impose the Euro, or even the dollar?0 -

Seriously my first aid supplies are going to be so much better as a result.0 -

Plus if everything went belly up and banks went bust, I wouldn't place much faith in the deposit guarantee.
The system is also very fragile and susceptible to cyber attack.
Latest glitch is Bank of England

I normally just lurk on this thread (and this board, mostly!) and I love it!
The talk of hiding places reminded me of this post. I am particularly fond of the hollow frame door idea, but I don't think my landlord would be particularly keen:

All hail the Bank of Mattress!
Thanks Pineapple.
I have been musing on a theme I mentioned a few days ago regarding the 'Bank of Mattress'. I wondered if more money was being withdrawn than was being spent.
Presumably the Bank of England must be very well aware that this is happening because they will have to print lots more notes. Do you know if a tally is kept anywhere online of the no. of notes printed? Also, is there a limit? Will I go to the cashpoint one day, and it tell me that no notes are available?0 -
Hi All,
I would like to buy some solar lamps, has anyone got any recommendations for good lamps that will charge up in the winter months?
Thank you.x0 -

I don't think the cashpoints will run dry until or unless emergency measures are instituted. And they won't give advance warning.0 -
I can still see the fall, so to speak, being more of a long slow drawn out process. I think we are heading for something along the lines of the "winter of discontent". But tbh the unions aren't as big, nor as powerful as they were in the 70's so things may not get quite as bad.
My Mum says she had to make her own bread for a few years in the 70's both because of price and availability. She mentioned something about a bakers strike? But could this happen now?
