Anything else you would recommend I get/do?
Some hi-viz vests (one for each potential occupant) and a warning triangle.
I also keep one of these in my car.
About £5 in £stretcher.
It can be set to constant or flashing and, being magnetic, can be stuck on any part of the steel bodywork of a car/van etc.
If you were to attach it to the side of the vehicle closest to the road, it would show a red flashing arrowhead, guiding drivers past the broken down vehicle.0 -
Unfortunately Lyn chocolate is a necessity for me. I say unfortunately because I am diabetic and therefore cannot keep more than a small amount in the house - or it would not keep - if you know what I mean. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0

ArthriticOldThing wrote: »Hi everyone. I read more than I post but just had to say that this week I've had an example of what could be my SHTF situation.
Have had 'flare-up' of arthritis and been unable to move much. Just managing round my small flat has been difficult and any thought of going would have been from fairyland. If had not prepped I would not have eaten at all as my hands have been too bad to contemplate cooking. Fortunately I had freezer full of hm ready meals and easy opened packets in the cupboard so have managed.
Thank you for all your help and advice.
Now what I mean is that for a week I could probably manage on ordinary shopping but the consultant has warned me the length of these flares will increase with time so have decided to make sure I have at least one month's worth of easy access food available at all times.
Also the other necessities :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
AOT,
I am so sorry to hear about your affliction. It sounds incredibly frustrating. I presume you have tried Glucosamine tablets?
I have been taking them for eight years now, and have no aches & pains at all. (I did before.)
I definitely recommend them to anyone who's joints are grumbling a little nowadays.0 -
Sugar free chocolate AOT? I know it's available in some health food shops and even some of the speciality diabetic sweeties are OK, a girl's gotta have chocolate, hasn't she??? Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Lots of sympathy coming your way AOT and anyone else feeling the twinges of arthritis beginning I suspect for the winter. As I staggered off the bus the other day after a 5 hour journey, OH tactfully enquired ' what's up? a bit stiff?', knees just wouldn't bend.0

Just got in about £20 worth of food stock.
Will be doing another "shop for stock" tomorrow.0 -

Me, too. Brilliant content but that voice does straaange things to a girl..........never known my heavy blockboard pooter desk to vibrate from the speakers before.
Enjoyed catching up with you all as always.
Can I ask about prepping for motor way break downs?
We're moving in a couple of months and have a 6 hour motorway journey to do in my 51 plate micra. Now she's a solid work horse with 50K ish on her clock but she's still old... and I'm petrified! I'm wanting to prepare for any eventualities and was hoping you would help me. So far:
I have raincoat and walking boots in boot as standard.
Bottle water and snacks as standard.
I know that I can park in the hard shoulder if I break down (can i?!)
I get out of the passenger side and wait on the side of the motorway behind the barrier.
I have breakdown cover, will need to read what that entails and get numbers ready (no, I haen't already done this... bad prepper!)
Anything else you would recommend I get/do?Fuddle, you can get the hi viz vests at £land. Very useful things, I have one for riding the bicycle.
I've done several large motorway trips with v.old cars (15 and 17 years) and could make a few suggestions.
Pack the car neatly so that weight is evenly distributed and check that your tyre pressures are adjusted upward for riding laden. Check the manual. Check all your fluid levels and make sure windscreen washer bottles are topped up.
Keep a steady, modest speed. I used to cruise my elderly Maxi up to Scotlandshire at a steady 55 in the inside lane. At that speed you'll run nicely among the trucks and not be risking overtaking.
You'll be surprised how much ground you can cover. My Dad couldn't believe how fast Bro and I got down from Yorkshire in Bro's 17 y.o. Astra cruising at a steady 55-60 mph.
Aim to stop at least every 2 hours for 20-30 mins to allow the driver a good break, the littlies to stretch their legs and the car to cool down a touch.
Motorway driving is monotonous, so make sure you take your breaks or you could find yourself nodding off.
Been to w*rk today and also extracted some of my salary from the clutches of the Minions of Satan. Later in the week I shall take the Jiffy trolley up to Sainsbugs and turn some clutter into recycling and some cash into groceries. Let them try to confiscate those, the beggars.
Grinning at the poster who was caught with 4 bottles of water out in the open. Should that happen to me, I say something like Oh, I can't abide tap water, only bottled for me. I'd rather they thing I'm a twerp than know the sinister truth.
Righty, off to see what the wicked of the world *waves at the gubermint* are up to. Bound to be up to no good.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

heh heh I'd be tempted to say 'Oh there was something through the letter box about roadworks and they might have to turn the water off' and watch that worried look flit across their faceIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
