Great pics Mar - do you hunt for food with the hawks? It's something we've never done but a good friend of ours on the island does. We used to shoot for the pot when we lived on the hill.

We're coastal, with a very short growing season - this year july to now. Youngest is a fisherman, and although we're sick to the back teeth of shellfish of any kind we trade for white and smoked fish.

Hit post by mistake (damn hands) and now cannot remember what I was going to say!!! duh!

remembered! Mar thanks for the amazon info - will go look
  • Lovely photos Mar I'm a teeny bit jealous but there are pros as well as cons to where we all live as well I know!
  • Please stop bickering you two

Debating two different opinions isn't bickering.
  • MAR I'm seriously envious both of the beautiful scenery and the beautiful hawk. I'd give quite a lot for the ability to harvest rabbits for the pot, I love game. Your grandson looks very competent with the handling too, what a cracker, Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • It's been a truly c**p day today, weather wise. :(
  • Rotten weather here too :(

Love the pics Mardy, looks like the places we love to spend our holidays. Think we are too old and DH too poorly to move now, so will make the best of where we are - we could be a lot worse off.

Enjoyed a few hours at the local canal festival today, before the weather got too bad. How enterprising were the canal folk then? Interesting method of cooking all in one big iron pot. My dad used to make what he called 'sea pie' - a stew with everything in, meat vegs and spuds, then a flat round suet top, all cooked in one pot on one source of heat presumably while crew were busy. Could be useful to practise.
  • Been raining all day here, but I don't mind as I'm off on holibobs tomorrow to T'Isle O'Wight.

Which got me thinking. Does anyone here have a mini kit for when they go away? Something they wouldn't leave without? I don't, but open to suggestions.
Not heavily in debt, but still trying to sort things out.
    Baby due July 2018.
