thanks Nuatha,
So if I put some pig poo on top of a raised bed, and then put black thick plastic over it, would this help it breakdown quicker??? or am I getting confused with people putting general fruit/veg waste in a trench at the end of the season, ready for next year's runner bean crop:cool::DWork to live= not live to work0 -

Almost certainly something available online about it but I must get off my arris and pedal up to the allotmentino or I shall be one of those dreadful people who are all talk and no action.
See ya some point later today and have a good 'un (currently sunny here but with hazy cirrus so who knows what may be incoming, weather-wise). Laters, GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

In the future, we will sweat and trudge and lardiness will not be a problem for many, I suspect.:rotfl:And we can go back to eating all those things we're told aren't good for usETA nuatha, my lottie and the neighbouring ones (and half the whole large lottie site) are already infested by mare's tail which is terrible stuff. The mixed load of pig and cow manure was already partially composted, which was great.
You have my sympathy, we tried everything we could access, including flamethrowers and weedkillers that aren't legal any longer and never got better than stalemate with the mares tail.COOLTRIKERCHICK wrote: »thanks Nuatha,

That sort of rang a bell, so went and did some checking and found thisIn a no-till garden, you can apply any type of animal manure on top of the soil during the fall/winter season, then grow a thick legume/grain cover crop combination before spring. This will also supply nutrients to the cover crop as it grows, as well as give the soil microbes enough time to digest the manure into humus into the soil. In this method any new weed seeds are choked out or green mannured whenever the cover crop is mowed or chopped down.
Thought on raised beds, I built some raised beds 6' by 3' by 18" deep, these needed a ton of soil each to fill - fortunately we got this free as MIL needed her garden dug out, but its a lot of soil to move and not cheap if you need to buy it.0 -
CTC look on the real seeds site they have a lot of information on harvesting and storing seeds as well as selling types that are easy to harvest further down the line.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

), why even give them the time of day?
Only thing is - I wish there could be a way of not seeing even the name pop up - whether as a poster or in a quote. Not that I'm in the habit of banishing people to Ignore-land on my forum adventures - but it's like being tempted to prod a poorly tooth to see if it's still poorly.
Do I click to view?
Go on dare ya.
No I have more sense.
Go on you know you want to.
Oh well just this once
Aaargh.... :eek:0 -
We have a howling gale and torrential rain also Mar - that'll be the garden flattened then!
Mostly I wouldn't trade my remote outpost - I sometimes wish we had access to shops like others, but then i'd probably want to purchase things I don't really need, and subsequently need more money, which would mean working more hours..........nah!!!
What I really would like is home delivery from a supermarket - am thinking of looking at amazon for grains/sugar - our biggest purchases.
