Preparedness for when

Evening
Just popped back with apologies for the bad spelling this morning. Know where when I should of put nowhere
I was tired as I had been kept awake by the flippin blackout programme :rotfl:
The plus side of a zombie apocalypse will be not having to find 400 smackers for a 6th form bus pass for my DSs nearest school  This is indeed an insult as TPTB said it would not affect us closing our nearest school down and moving everyone five miles away!!

OH said this evening he has been thinking about Blackout and what would happen / what we can do to prep so I'm really glad you all mentioned it - even if it was a bit sensationalist and lightweight if it gets people thinking that can only be a good thing.
We will be keeping some cash in the house - I was thinking small notes so that you don't advertise that you have lots of cash and won't lose too much if change isn't available. Plus change of course.
We have an alpine stove which spare gas (stored in garage) plus a camping gaz stove with 2 hobs and a grill which we have two bottles for, must check the levels as the idea is that one is always full. We also have a portable gas BBQ which we use for camping and a couple of cartridges for that.
Where we have been brewing our own wine from kits we have several 5l food grade containers which would be good for storing water in but I need to get some Milton liquid, saw it in Sainsbug's the other day when I was looking for Milton tablets.
I'm thinking more about power cuts and maybe civil unrest (although we are quite rural) rather than zombie apocalypse.
Can anyone recommend a reasonable Kelly kettle / ghillie kettle (and what is the difference?)0 -
I have told all my friends to always make sure they never let their car fuel tanks go under half full.
This practice has stood me in good stead a number of times recently. I prefer to buy BP ultimate diesel, and twice in the last month, my local station has been out of it for nearly a week.
Perhaps an early sign of supply problems?0 -
Poundstretcher has some large (about 7.5" tall, by about 2.5" diameter) Church Candles, for £2-99 each.0

I've an appointment in Leeds tomorrow, so will be able to go to £land and the 99p store. any recommendations? Not heavily in debt, but still trying to sort things out.
Baby due July 2018.0 -
All the usual stuff.
In £land, Cleaning products.
In particular, 1.3L of Easy WUP liquid, and 750ml bottles of Mr Muscle kitchen and bathroom cleaning spray.
From 99p Stores, Do It Right brand AA aluminium LED torch (adjustable focus), and Insonic Mini FM Radio.
From either £land or 99p Stores, candles, bulbs, batteries, fuses, medical supplies (plasters, ointments, painkillers etc.) boiled sweets.
If there's also a Poundstretcher, then pop in for the cheapest Typhoo tea bags, at £2-79 for 300.0 -

And you are saving fuel, by using waste heat.
I like the look of this - just ordered some 12" hurricane lamps, now reduced to £2.86 on Amazon. I have a couple of more decorative oil lamps that do get a lot of use each winter, but the hurricane lamps are easier to move about.
No gas here so a Camping Gaz Bistro hob supplements the electric cooker, and the fire's ok for toast.
DD has just got a house with a combi boiler, so there's no water tank or hot water cylinder. It has LPG heating and hob, electric oven. She's beginning to take on board the idea of storing drinking water (they do have a water butt), and getting more food in than they need just for the coming week. My prepping has been a source of everything from mirth, pity and contempt from the family over the years, seemingly now I'm not such a nutcase after all!
Talking about water storage at work the other day, and questioning the sense of houses not having water tanks or cylinders, I said that I keep some water bottles filled (but didn't admit to having 50-plus litres), and said I always fill the kettle at bedtime, in case the water's off next morning. All my (male) colleagues were bemused, one said if the water was off in the morning "Do what any normal person would do, nip round to Sainsbury's for some bottles..."0 -
I have a couple, very similar (in fact I think identical) to those.
Have you got a (reasonably priced) paraffin supplier, close by?
ETA: I thought I had a photo somewhere.0 -

Yes please Bob. Have you got a link?0 -
Yes, but only for an American company.
They do ship, but I don't know how much shipping will be.
