Tonight I'm making a fruit crumble with foraged blackberries and plums off the tree. You are all invited naturally. Oh dear I seem to have forgotten my address!

That's a shame, I could have brought the vat of beef stew that's just about ready, along with a pile of choc chip cookies for supper.0 -

Got a few of those round here, Bob, don't seem to be good for much though!!
Please can anyone with experience let me know, in the event of a power cut, does the gas still work for e.g. gas burners for cooking, gas fire? I realise gas central heating will go down without electricity to work pump.
Theoretically, the gas still works. It is pressurised by gas turbine engines that are fueled by gas.
Though, elf & safety I'm sure, would mean the gas companies shut it down also, lest anyone be daft enough to turn on their gas hob and not notice the ignition didn't work.
Sounds almost as silly as shutting down perfectly working coal fired power stations to save CO2 emissions, doesn't it? Oh, wait...0 -
Not exactly suitable for preparing a 3 course meal, but should be OK for brewing up or heating a tin of soup.
And you are saving fuel, by using waste heat.0
