Lisa - I always use the tins of marmalade pulp. They are so easy to do and I haven't had a disaster yet. Much easier than chopping all those marms! I get mine from Sainsbugs and I think Morries.

    Morning lovely Preppers and Prepperesses......

On your recommendation, I have read Last Light and Afterlight.
Have got The Survivors on order from the library.
    What do you suggest next?
    Ta muchly

Lillibet please can you let me know if your library manages to get hold of The Survivors? My library has said it is not available, if yours manages to get it I can quote the ISBN no. and library it came from hopefully I will get to read it once you return it!

I have a feeling they looked for Survivors by James Wesley Rawles which I dont think will be available, is this the book you have asked for or is there a differnt one called The Survivors?

I am currently reading John Birminghams Without Warning, where USA population disappears in an instant when a "cloud" covers it. Only just getting into it but it tells the tale of those outside the USA and how the world starts to fall apart without it, told from the perspective of several different indivuals.

ELAINE if you are wanting the book that is the 1970s series on television its just called SURVIVORS by TERRY NATION Published in 1976 by FUTURA PUBLICATIONS LTD and the ISBN NUMBER is ISBN 0 8600 7170 7. I have a very tattered and much read original copy but they did a re-issue in a different cover a couple of years ago when the new TV Series was made. Hope that helps, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Have just checked Fleabay and they have 22 listings for this book, including a couple of the original publication for as little as 99p plus postage.

Blimey you'll be needing to put your feet up anyway after that marathon session :D;)
One less thing to worry about tho eh?

My late FIL was diabetic and he was ultra careful with his feet and rightly so they can get very nasty in a very short time.People don't realise how many complications you get with it sadly.

You do realise they'll have to take Mum shopping for nice new shoes though

Lol new shoes I will be wearing the ultimate fashion aka DH's Jesus sandals :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:because of the size of the dressing

GQ don't panic Mrs Mainwaring  it is being done by the NHS in a proper operating theatre.

Diabetes is scary, people don't see it as serious as it actually is, it can cause so much damage to your body :(
I didn't realise until I got it, that is why diabetics have to have so many different health checks.

  • Two more books that might appeal to survivalists and I've checked they are both available on A*azon , at a price or possibly through the library

Earth Abides by George.R.Stewart, think this is a 1949 publication

The Sheep Look Up by John Brunner

Read them both years ago and both made a lasting impression, Cheers Lyn xxx.

:) Thanks, MrsLW, just added those two to the booklist.

Well, I have definately decided I shall never attempt to put either handwash powder or washing-up liquid into an automatic washing machine. Life's too short to start my own personal froth factory.

I just restocked the kitchen cupboard where I keep some of my cans from "the shop" - meaning the underbed rolling trollies. It's getting down to a fine art.

I pick up the hardcover A4 notebook with the foody design on it, turn to the page tab which has what I want (baked beans) glance to see which trolley they're on (diagram in front of book), retrieve and add them to cupboard, whilst erasing and updating number in the book which is kept entirely in pencil for just this purpose.

On the can lids are the purchase date and price and the BB which is May 2014. I haven't seen baked beans at 4 for £1 since I added these into the store last year (Branston brand) but when I do, I shall restock the trollies. They're usually 4 for £2.

:o Gosh, when did baked beans stop being a cheapy snack?

I like storecupboarding and having an inventory book. In lieu of a shopping list, I could always grab it and take it to the shop so I could see what was needed.

It's good to have stuff, but it's even better if you know what and where it is.............:rotfl:
