Help - what can we get for OH's parents?

Hope some of you can help, I'm a bit stuck!
Recently OH and I moved house, and his parents gave us loads of help doing this. Obviously we want to get them something or do something to thank them, but we have no clue what!
We can't think of anything we could buy them, in any case they have everything they want and personally I don't like to get people just "stuff" that will probably just end up cluttering the place up. We can't have them over to ours which is what I'd otherwise have thought to do, as it's too small (maybe when we get a forever home we can do this!).
I thought of suggesting we cook them dinner at theirs instead, but I'm sure anything I say will be met with the good old "Oh no you don't have to do anything for us...". Don't you hate it when people say things like that? Don't DO that, I am asking you so just tell me what you want! Argh!
So what do you think we can do? What have you done to thank people when they've done you a big favour?

Have you come across 'Wine' in bottles? If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

I wouldn't want you to come to my house and cook dinner, it would just feel wrong for someone else to be in my kitchen whilst I sat there. They will have helped you because they love you both and so when they say they don't expect anything that will be true. A token gift given with real appreciation would be lovely.0

Take them out for a nice meal?

Why do you feel the need to buy/or do something for them? They seem like very nice people and I'm sure wouldn't want you spending your money on them.
Instead, why not get them a lovely 'Thank You' card. When I've helped my adult children out in the past they've always sent me a card accompanied by a great big hug to express their gratitude. More than enough for me!
I would have been mortified if they'd wasted money on buying "stuff", as you say, just for the sake of buying me something. I have every card they sent me and it's lovely to read through them occasionally and remember when I've been in a position to be able to help them out. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.:kisses3:0 -
Cheers guys!
SambucusNigra - I have indeed heard of this "wine", and it would usually be my automatic idea for such a situation, only they've got a pile of that too!
Poet123 - I thought the same as you, that's why I've not said about it.
Gillyx - I suggested that to OH, he isn't sure they would be keen on going out to eat and I think he's probably right.
Bambam - I feel the need because I do. My entire family are that way of "No no you don't need to bother with me!" "No no I am doing this for you and you must accept it!". You should have seen the scenes when for instance my mum would try to pay back my nan a fiver for some shopping, and my nan wouldn't take it, and they'd both insist... :rotfl:
They do like foods, maybe I'll bake them some cakes or something, maybe something a bit unusual. Don't know why I didn't think of that before, see you have helped! Any suggestions? Or better ideas?0 -
I'm a fatty, that's my ideal present
I love eating out. Good food and good company can think of no better way to spend time

Yes, I'd go with a home made cake, too. And/or some supermarket flowers, can't go wrong with flowers and cake (unless they're diabetic/allergic!).
Probably any cake/muffin/tray bake would be appropriate - I'd try and find out what their favourite is and take that.

I would have suggested a meal out before you said they wouldn't like it.
I think something home made would be a good idea, what about shortbread (easy to make) or brownies?
Or, possibly home made truffles.
Rather than flowers, I'd get an orchid.
You can buy them reasonably cheaply in Tesco and M&S (our Tesco Extra had some for £5 yesterday) and they last much longer that cut flowers.0 -
I agree that a plant or small tree or something might be nicer than cut flowers.
I also agree about the baking somrthing idea. Brownies or shortbread is a better idea than cupcakes - they're a bit kiddy to me.14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130
