The Hotel is Booked Via Laterooms.com; we are staying at The Porta Fira Barcelona,

Flying from London Gatwick, Flying Back to London Southend.

I have a few questions; I have tried googling.
  • Transport - How Do we get from the Airport to this Hotel without paying alot of money, Also how do we get into the City Centre of Barcelona without costing a fortune.
  • What to do; What do you think there will be too do in Barcelona for New Year, and what would you recommend seeing that is cheap enough to do so?
  • Getting Back How long do you think it will take to get back from the City of Barcelona on New Year? and do you think there will be transport running?

I suspect Richard is hinting that you might want to cancel that one and book one that's actually in Barcelona.

I love this place, it's good value, as central as can be (right on Las Ramblas), and about 100 metres from where the direct bus service from the airport arrives:

I can't imagine that the airport bus will not be running on New Year's Day, but I daresay Google will be your friend.

As for what to do in Barca, the usual stuff that everyone does: Sagrada Familia, Tibidabo, Parc Guell, La Barceloneta, cable car, Montjuic etc. etc. Lots of info online if you don't want to buy a guide book. Plus, eat, drink and be merry, which is what Barca is really for!

  • When i rung Laterooms, they said we are only about 10 minutes from Barcelona airport which isn't too bad and they say its only about 15 mins into the city centre, we don't wanna be too close..

Me and my partner stayed here for a week and it was easy to find (Number 46 bus from El Prat Airport drops you off outside and only costs around £5, better than the £25 taxi option)
Two blocks form hotel you ve got the bus stop and with L94 for 2 euros you ll be in Plaza Catalunia in 15 minutes.

  • Is Plaza Catalunia is the centre of barcelona then?

Well that depends on how you travel, which I should've thought was obvious. Those times are probably accurate if you take a taxi, but that doesn't fit with your wish to get around cheaply.

To and from the airport your only options are taxi or local bus. To the centre you have a metro station about 10 minutes' walk away, or local bus again. You might want to find out what time the buses and metro stop running on New Year's Eve.

I cannot for the life of me imagine why you wouldn't want to be in the centre. If someone persuaded me to book a hotel in the middle of nowhere like that I'd consider I'd been sold a pup.
