phone trouble

6 months ago I upgraded my phone to a Blackberry Bold 9900. within a couple of weeks I was having problems with it. It wasn't ringing and it was freezing a lot. Orange sent a replacement handset. Shortly afterwards this had the same freezing problem. Orange sent another replacement. Last week, same freezing problem. Phoned Orange yet again and said I did not want this handset anymore as everyone has had problems. They have refused to let me have a different handset and will only send out another of the same. Does anyone know what exactly my rights are here? Can I insist on a different handset or are they within their rights to only replace like for like?

Your SOGA 'rights' expired with the original handset. Orange have (as you say) provided goodwill gesture exchanges after this, but from whatr you say you receive the handset and it works, and then after a period of use it doesn;t do what you expect it to....?

There may be firmware issues, or indeed some S/w or apps you have installed is interfering with the handset is some way. As this is a computer, manufacturers (and suppliers) make no bones about not accepting responsibility for problems caused by software or apps - and unless you can prove there is a general fault that affects all models of the type you have, SOGA will not assist as this will only kick in in there is a manufacturing fault.

I'd suggest you wipe and reset the phone to its factory settings, then only add Apps until you find the one that causes the problem.

Sorry to say I had the same problems with the same model - exchanged under warranty then failed again just outside warranty.

Spent ages on the phone to Orange & Blackberry and lost the will to live. Luckily was given use of an iphone by a relative which will hopefully see me through. Will never have a Blackberry again though - not up to the job IMO.

Short answer is, I don't think they need to do any more than exchange the phone again for the same. I think the replacements are only refurbished, you could push them for a brand new replacement considering the issues you've had. Problem comes when you're out of warranty - may be worth paying for Orange care or other insurance?

Vote with your feet next time and don't get another Blackberry would be my best advice in the long run!
