Argos help

Hi,

I need some advice.

I bought an iPod cleaning kit from an Argos store on Saturday.I first saw the kit in one of those clearance magazines they give out. In thepicture, very clearly you can see: A case, Stylus, covers, cloth and a card. The main reason I bought the kit was for the stylus. The item was priced at£2.49

Anyway, I order the kit, pay and when I look on thepackaging of the item, it doesn’t list a stylus. So I ask the manager to see ifI have a dud kit. No, the kit in fact doesn’t come with the stylus. He looked in the catalogue to see if he couldgive me a stylus, but they do not sell them in the catalogue, only online. Heoffered a refund (paid on card) which normally takes at least a few days to getback. In the past if an item is missing, the company rectify this. Not Argos.

I emailed the company, gave the item number stating that inthe picture, it clearly shows a picture of a stylus. I got a brush of email soasked for a manager. When the manager called she didn’t seem to see a fault atall. Her excuse was it was for display purposes only. She went on to say that “Itincludes an iPod in the picture, but it doesn’t include one in the pack”. No,it doesn’t, but for £2.49, you wouldn’t expect one. I asked if I'm meant to assume that any itemyou sell is only to give an idea of what I’m getting, and said if I bought agame from yourselves, and you only showed a picture of the case with the priceof £30, I’m sure you wouldn’t expect me to assume I am just getting a case?

She finally agreed to let me find a stylus from the catalogue, £3.99 or less,(had to online as I don’t have a catalogue) only to be told (as I all readyknew) they do not stock them in the catalogue, so would not be able to give mea stylus. I was offered sticks for the Nintendo's but having tried them in the past and they didnt work, i couldnt use them. If i could have, i would have.

I know it’s petty over a stylus. But I think companies shouldn’tbe able to just print what they want. I would never had bought it had i known it just came with a cloth and screen covers. In hindsight i would have just accepted the refund but i never thought Argos, who I've never had any issue with before, to be so difficult.

Oddly, online, at one point a stylus didcome with the pack but in about the end of December 2011, they stopped andpeople did complain on the reviews. The cat number is 524/4342, although the picture is diffrent. I can scan copy of the picture I have.

Would this be a matter for trading standards(False Advertisment), and if so ,how do you contact them?

By the sound of it they did everything they could to rectify this apart from go out and buy a stylus from somewhere else for you. What did the description say? sometimes you do get errors and this is just that an error, usually there is a disclaimer for errors. For the price it would be wiser just to take the refund and move on, it is petty and from your description Argos haven't been that difficult at all. If they don't stock something how do expect them to supply you with it?

Tradings standards won't be that interested at all in the occasional error, they same as everyone else know that not everything is perfect all of the time and mistakes happen.

They do sell the styluses, online. I was told yesterday They might be able to send me one out. Im more annoyed by the comment about comparing it to an ipod not being listed. I have had another call and told i should take the item back for a refund, the journey to the nearest store would cost more than the item is worth.

They don't have to supply the stylus. As its already been pointed out now it's an error. The cost of returning now isn't really their problem you have already been offered a refund when you purchased it but opted not to take the refund and continue the situation when that's all you where entitled to. The whole iPod analogy/cost of returning item to store didn't need to occur at all just you assume you have more rights than you actually have.

Jeez, with the number of items in the Argos catalogue there's sure to be the odd error. They offered you a refund, what more do you want?

its £2.49, i doubt i would have bothered to complain for such a small amount, but you where offered a refund anyway.

Out of interest, why would you expect a cleaning kit to contain a stylus?

Odd error? When I worked there the catalogues were full of over-stickers correcting mistakes. At least one on every page!!

As i have said before. To go get the refund, it would cost more in petrol than it is worth. As said before, im annoyed about the ipod refrence, but by the sounds of it companies can get away with showing something then not delivering.

If you actually read the post, they say "it clearly shows a picture of a stylus", that's why.

I'm sure you could make a case but why not spend the time more wisely instead.

You already told us that you were offered a refund while you were still there. But no, for the sake of some £2.50 tat you walked away and made a big deal of it, and now you can't get your refund.

    No sympathy here I'm afraid.
