Actually, I have some Permethrin cream (for scabies) which I could put on my feet and legs. But I just pull my socks up and try to avoid treading on the carpet barefoot!

Just applied the cream, but no effect. Lots of the little !!!!!!s are crawling up my legs and nestling in my socks! No effect, these fleas must be resistant to Permethrin. Neither did the Permethin powder do any good to the carpet which I applied after the Indorex. Applied an entire tin of the stuff to the room.

Either carpet replacement or Rentokill I think! Furniture moving is the problem with the former.

I think the shag pile might be free now, nothing in my array of flea traps there, but got a flea downstairs on my arm on Saturday possibly from one of the chairs. Difficult to locate the source though, so I used another can around the suspected spots. Still horrible having to inspect your feet every time I get into bed.

Spoke to the owner of the dogs yesterday, we had a serious old row, came nearest to hitting someone for the first time for 30 years. He became abusive and accused me of giving them fleas by taking them walks in swampy land, something which I generally avoid in damp weather.

That's all the thanks I get for years of free dog walking and dogsitting and a 20 year friendship!

The carpets don't look as if they have been touched, but at least they had the sense to clean some of the bedding areas and the dogs fur seems to have improved. I inspected myself before coming back to make sure there were no fleas on me and I hadn't been there for two weeks anyway.

I don't think I will be getting involved again, shame the dogs will be left in all day though, and one is getting older and can't hold herself that long, very cruel. Thats the main reason I carried on so long. Sometimes if one does favours, selfish types just take advantage.

I remember reading once that if you put a saucer of water and put a little desk lamp on the floor pointing it towards the water (also on the floor), if you have any fleas they will head towards the water. Hopefully you'll then be able to tell if you've got rid of them all.

Yes, you are supposed to make it soapy to avoid them getting out, don't have the lamp though. Together with double sticky paper completes the 'minefield' under my bed! Used to catch several a day, nothing for 4 or 5 days now.

For upholstery, I get 3kg of bicarbonate of soda for £3 at the local Chinese wholesalers.

Brush it in, leave for 24 hours or more, then vacuum up. Apparently, the aim is to dehydrate the fleas. It worked for my cat perch, without using any chemicals on it. I wouldn't use this method on dark upholstery.
