    How did it finish?

In exact same position with this agent. They now want money up front (not explained) and to cancel (because dont want house being sold by liars!). Nothing explained.

Taking it up with property ombudsman. Avoid these people!

How can you be in the same position? If they want an upfront fee, and you haven't paid it yet, you don't have a contract with them.

If you have paid the upfront fee, why did you do this if you're not happy about it?

TPO won't be interested in your complaint unless you've been through the EA's own complaints procedure. Have you?

If you really want to get your own back tell them your in financial destitution

I know many more people who have had complaints against this particular company.

The moral of the story is don't trust; estate agents, solicitors, or banks, they are all vulchers, all make their own rules.

So, EAs are vultures, you say, but your solution is basically to lie about your true circumstances. Does that give you the moral high ground?

How many, exactly, is 'many more'?

Their rules were clearly stated in the contract, apparently - a contract which you should have read before signing. How does this equate to 'making their own rules'?
  • I guess moral of story for others who this thread may be useful is to ask about any contract if you are not sure and don't be pressured into signing anything.
Ask if an exit fee is in the contract, what is minimum sign up period they are requesting, any extras over and above the headline fee etc

If you've signed a contract that clearly and unambiguously states there is an exit fee then can't really see what grounds you have for challenging this or the fact that you've agreed to pay £70 advertising for an additional promotional advert which is quite common

Not one for normally sticking up for agents but don't like people taking the pee when they agree to contracts either
