Very new to ppi, lots of credit, do we have a case?

Options
Hi guys,

Need a bit of advice please!

Ive had companies pestering me about ppi so thought id have a bash meself.

1.
However Im not sure if ive paid any ppi as I have no paperwork I had 2 store cards which I owed £1000 back in 2004. Which was paid off in 2007 ish. They were from New look and Dorothy Perkins. The debt was bought by a company called Activ Kapital (Nightmare!!!)

(I managed to get the defaults removed from my credit score a few years after this with the help of a helpful MSEr. As I requested my credit agreement they did NOT have it. Will this matter??)

Do I have a case with this?

2.
We have bought 2 sofas from DFs over the years. We're still paying for one now. I should have the paperwork somewhere for the recent purchase. Can we claim for these?

3.
We have a loan we took out with Barclays 3 years ago (still 1 year left on it) For £1000. Probably havent got the paperwork Is this worth pursuing?? Do we have to request the terms I take it?

4.
We have a littlewoods catalogue account which we've had for a good 4 years, Prob paid around £1500 in purchases, currently zero balance, no paperwork, again is this worth pursuing? request terms again?

5.
other half had a £1500 overdraft for a couple of years and we hovered around the max limit for that time (bad times) all paid off now and in the black. Does this same apply to this??

Basically there is probably more credit we've had but this as a start, can we do anything? What shall we do?

I understand I am asking a lot :o and we are very greatful for any help. As you can tell we are very new to ppi reclaiming and need pointing in right direction!

Thanks for reading :)

  • Hiyah, I', no expert but can give you my advice based on my own experience. If you have the account numbers or cards etc then that would be a good start for chasing these up, if not then contact the lenders they should have a record of your address etc so you can get the account info from them. I used this website to claim for my ppi, I wasnt too sure if I had ppi on my MBNA card but completed the printable ppi claim form from this site then sent it off to MBNA, they in turn replied basically saying "No" I was not entitled to any compensation bla bla, just ignore this they try to fob people off, I got the same response when I claimed for my misselling of an endowement mortgage through Nationwide I had years ago - I went to the financial ombudsman and they sorted it, Nationwide then paid me £3500 comp. So basically print off a claim form for each claim, send off to the lending company, wait for their reply, sometimes they offer comp sometimes they send you a "no" letter!, if you get a "No" that is when you can persue your claim with the Financial Ombudsman, which is another form to complete then they do all the rest.

There is a risk in pursuing a complaint about non-existent PPI.

If it gets to FOS, it may be dismissed as "frivolous and vexatious". If that happens, you may find the firm can bill you for its time and costs.
  • So basically I need to find out if i have been paying ppi and go from there.
    Thank you!
