Where does your cat sleep?

Options
Recently I took on a little kitten and he has taken to sleeping on my bed, sometimes shares my pillow too!
Talking to a friend of mine, she always shuts her kitten away at night in the bathroom. I might be a softie cos i can't do that!
I was also a little worried about when I go away whether he will get stressed at being on his own but I have found a good cattery thankfully and may even get another cat from their as they are a rescue too :) (after my holidays)
I was just wondering what others do, do you let your cat sleep where they like or are they shut away?

Kinda. The bedroom doors are a little dodgy so they often get in and onto a couple of the beds - they're not meant to and they know they're not meant to! They used to sleep on their bed when they were younger, but tbh I haven't seen them use it in years; should probably get rid of it/donate it before they pass along because it'll be too hard emotionally then.

They have beds downstairs which they occasionally sleep on, but they're bigger fans of sleeping on the sofa or any pieces of paper left lying around.

They're not allowed in the bedrooms at night and never have been. Bedrooms = our space.

You're new to cats arent you :p Dogs have owners, cats have slaves!

Mine sleep wherever they like. Magic loves to lie beside me like a human, protesting if I don't cuddle him. Kora like the bottom of the bed, or under the duvet, and Harris sleeps between my partner and I.

Cats sleep wherever they want, quite often in the very places you don't want them to. Try and leave a dark space fairly high up but accessible to furry paws because they like having a wee place of their own to go to - sometimes. Don't be surprised to see changes of habit with regards to sleeping spots. Ours has around 12 places in the house and garden which are regularly used for a kip - or just a catnap!

At the moment Cat1 sleeps on the Bed, Cat2 sleeps in the lounge or with a dog. Cat3 on top of a scratchpole and Cat4 either on the bed or with a dog. It'll change as it always does.

Squished up next to me, at the bottom of the bed, in the wardrobe, on top of the printer .... kittens often like to play at night, how can they do that in a bathroom? IMO you are right to find a decent cattery, young cats can get into all sorts of trouble left home alone. My girl climbs the curtains, has been stuck on a tiny shelf right next to the ceiling, and fell down behind the headboard getting wedged on her side before!

  • Madam - in the radiator cat bed, about 6 inches away from me on the sofa. On the second shelf up in the kitchen, underneath the coffee machine. On the kitchen table. On any unattended, folded, clean washing. On my neck care pillow (shoving me off it gradually as I sleep). On my head, if I don't give up the neckcare pillow without a fight. On my ribcage or shoulder if I'm on the sofa.

Fluffyknickers - The end of the bed. The cat bed. Under the bed on her back with her legs in the air when the fan is switched on.

Defective Ninja - The end of the bed (to the disgust of old Fluffyknickers). The front downstairs windowsill. The sofa. The shed. The flowerbeds. In between the sunflowers and broadbeans. On my ankle. The wicker cat basket, so much so, that it is no longer a cat basket; it's his main daytime bed.

All of these are open to change without prior arrangement.

Little Miss Possessive sleeps ON me. No matter what position I'm in. She demands it, and won't take no for an answer.

Stress head sleeps on the sofa, on any of her lovely blankies (beautiful blankets from the White Company which were originally intended for me but have since been taken hostage). I make a little tent for her every night (a blanket from the top of the back of the sofa to the front of the sofa cushion!) as she loves to hide under it and curl up.

During the day they sleep on the papasan chairs on my lovely cushions. On the sofa. On top of the book case. Anywhere where there's paper. Anywhere which causes maximum inconvenience for me. On anything I need to use, like a notepad or the remote control.

The only place they don't sleep - and have never slept - is their cat bed.

love the stories :) I have had cats before, once when I was younger and again when I got my own place but that one was a bit of a loner as she always hid to sleep, she was a rescue and had a tiny tail and lost a tooth, so who knows what happened in her past :( . This is my first time with a kitten and it's fun lol. I notice many of you have more than one cat, I'd like more but living in a flat I'm a bit unsure, don't want to be here forever but am here for the time being :) It's definatly something to think about.
