Xmas Saver!
hello,

forgive me here but i really don't know where to start....

i noticed a problem the other night where my laptop running on windows 7 had shut down due to an error i didn't get to see in time what the error was, it did all start back up again but seems really slow and i can not update windows updates.

I have followed links provided by microsoft to try and solve these problems 1 thing i tried was a tool called fix it but its still not working.

there is also an error message for NVIDIA Graphics Driver again i have tried clicking on the link but nothing happens.

sorry there is not a lot of info here but i am totally confused.

would be very grateful for some kind person to help me. :o

Insufficient information to help you, however it might be prudent to

    1. backup your data
    2. Create windows 7 discs if you don't have any
    3. Create a windows 7 system image backup, and restore disc, or use macrium reflect free to do similar
    4. Find out the procedure to do a factory restore on your machine by looking at the manual.
    5. run chkdsk on the c: drive, and scan with malwarebytes free

Do this crystal9 - It should take 2-3 minutes and should give us a bit more information.

Download DDS from the link below and save it to your desktop:

    Link

After you've downloaded it and saved it to your desktop:
    • Double click DDS to run it.
    • When it's finished, DDS will open two logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. attach.txt
Save both reports to your desktop.

Copy & paste the contents of just DDS.txt for now and post it here (you may need to split the log over separate posts)

It depends how you are backing up, and to what.

Factory restore was meant to be a last resort, do chkdsk and AV scans first.

What machine is it, how old, what AV/firewall software are you using, what nvidia error, is it hot, what were you doing at the time of the crash

not sure what nvidia error it it because it just tells me to solve this issue but i can not do anything with the link

the laptop feels a little warmer than usual, i wasn't doing anything at the time it happened when i went to turn it on

Yes. Don't forget to turn it back on when it's finished.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Switching off automatic restart in the event of system failure will leave the Blue Screen error on the screen so you can write it down. You should record the entire error, including the long string of numbers.

You can also use Who Crashed to read the dump files created following a system crash.

Click Start. Type system in the search box. Click System under Control Panel. Click Advanced system settings on the menu (on left) Click the Settings button in Startup and recovery. Change the settings to match this:
    recovery.jpg

in particular ensure there isn't a tick next to automatically restart.
