Credit Card Mistake!

:( hi. i was in a shop saturday and the assistant asked if i'd like to take the benefit of discounts and asked if i wanted to have a store card. i thought it was just a loyalty one. but by mistake i had got myself a credit card which i didn't want. could i have cancelled it straight away and refused it? or is it too late now? the transaction went through. i have to pay for a bag with it yet.
as soon as i have. can i cancel it again? and send the credit card back to them. thanks.
she443. :)

You can cancel it, but you will of course have to pay for the bag first. They won't close it until your payment has cleared.
Most companies tell you to cut it up.

You won't be able to remove the credit search as you agreed, but one isn't a big deal and nothing to get worried about.

if it is a store you used a lot then it may be worth keeping it as they may make special offers for their card holders

just make sure you pay in full so there is no interests charges

Did you get a discount? If so, you have come out on top and you can cancel the card while feeling smug. :)

This happened to me recently. I thought it was a loyalty card and I took it becasue a discount was offered. I paid it off straight away and cut up the card. It felt good.

i do agree with paying the full balance off , but this is the bit that doesnt happen after a few months and leads to alot of uncontrolable debt, good advice rip it up cancel close the account, as you wish you had done later on

thanks to everyone for your replies. :) i can't wait to pay for the bag so i can cancel it. i was just wondering. if they hold back sending it to me so i have to pay interest on the goods..? that's one thing i want to avoid.

    Which store was it?
You can pay as soon as you get your statement.
As long as you pay in full and by the due date you won't pay any interest :)
