Problem with a Norfrost chest freezer

Hello everyone just looking for some advice really.
We bought a Norfrost chest freezer from a Currys store about 18 months-2 years ago, they sold us the display model as it was the last one they had. It had a mark on the exterior, so they knocked £10 off the price.
Now the lid of the freezer, on the outside, is getting huge cracks in the surface, to the point where it looks like it may start to break apart before too long. It doesn't seem to be affecting the functionality of the freezer, although the cracks are quite deep (can get a photo after work).
I have to add that I never rest anything heavy or hot ontop of the freezer, the heaviest thing that ever gets put there is my dinner plate while I am dishing up. Am I right in thinking that the freezer top should not be doing this, due to its age (and perhaps shouldn't be happening at all?).
Would I be likely to actually get anywhere if I contacted Norfrost themselves? (I am not seeking compensation but a replacement freezer top would be nice!)
Thanks
