Very Low Ebb

I am at a low ebb tonight. DH is away working overseas. I have been overseeing renovations. It seems to have being going on for weeks. Very tired.
Had neighbour complaining about noise the other week because I hoovered at 800 pm. Took plants round and he cut my grass two days later. Thought it was sorted.
Tonight same neighbour came to door because someone had parked at her front door - could I get them to move car. No, sorry, no-one visiting me so I can't help. It is not a private estate, anyone can park anywhere but we do try and park at our own front doors and I have actually asked friends visiting to park in a central 'visitors' area to ensure we don't obstruct neighbours.
She had a huge rant about inconsiderate neighbours anyway. She said by the way I heard you sanding down your stairs today etc etc. Yes, well, new carpet tomorrow and I was preparing. I did it this afternoon after lunch, was finished about 3.00pm. I can't win methinks.

None of what you've done is remotely unreasonable. Please ignore the busybody neighbour.
Go to bed with a good book, its midnight and you've been sanding floors all day, you probably need a good rest!0 -
Yes, I think my Kindle awaits and the electric blanket is on! Just tired and beyond comprehension about some people!0

Some people just have a need to do a running commentary on their own life. You feel bad because you are tired and van't shrug it off so easily. Ignore her.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Your neighbour is dishing out their own !!!!!!.
That doesn't mean that you have to soak it up and assume that you're to blame.
Take it that your neighbour has their own issues.
I hope you pick up - you can do it, you know :j:jWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

Ugh, my sympathy. Had a nightmare couple living below me, drove me mad with notes complaining about every little noise until one day sarcasm got the better of me.
Neighbour: "I could hear you walking about yesterday"
Me "Oh, I'm so sorry, I'll try and hover in future"
They moved out the next week!Strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government0 -
You're over-wrought because you've a lot on your mind and you don't need your neighbour's crap. How little have they got in their life to obsess about you!
Don't worry about them. If they complain about reasonable things, and sanding floors during the day is not unreasonable then just shut the door on them. The car parking wasn't anything to do with you anyway but in their mind it was another thing to have a go at you about. Some people are just bullies.
Hope you feel better soon x0 -
OP
I remember your original post, I thought your gesture would have sorted things out.
Of course, we all know that your neighbour was out of order by having a go at you about the car which had nothing to do with you.
Maybe she was just having a bad day and, in the absence of anyone else to shout at, decided to take it out on you by mentioning the sanding.
I don't think doing sanding in the early afternoon (your neighbours do know about the renovations) is out of order.
Let's hope she went home, had a think about how she over-reacted and will be round sometime this week with a 'I'm sorry' gesture - as you yourself did to her.0 -
Many years ago we moved in to a new house and at the weekend family and friends came to help us unpack / look at the house / garden etc. We were a professional couple working full time, no kids, out at work all day.
About 2 weeks after we moved in our neighbours invited us in for a drink. We were then sat down and told how many people visited, how many times they ran up and down stairs, where they parked, what time our alarm went off in the morning, what time our cars pulled on and off the drive. We were then advised on what level good neighbours should have our music, tv etc
Two months later we knocked to tell them that we were having a baby and they put their house up for sale the same week :rotfl:
Some neighbours are hyper sensitive or have nothing better to do. Renovating a home is tiring especially when you are doing it alone. The best you can do is try to ignore this neighbour and count off the days until the jobs are done and your husband is home.

That about says it! The neighbour sounds like they have issues of their own (perhaps there's so little going on in their life that they need to look around for things to pick fault with to stir up a bit of drama?).
Don't take it to heart. Nothing that you have done is unreasonable and it is the neighbour being unreasonable by having a go at you. If they are so over sensitive that they really can't cope with a bit of noise from stairs being sanded in the middle of the day then they need to either invest in better insulation for their property or find someone detached in the middle of nowhere to live.
I hope today is a better day for you!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Don't let them get to you. You have done nothing wrong, you are just doing the normal things that we all do in our everyday life. DIY is obviously one of them.
Maybe next time they moan about noise you are making, ask them if they would like to help you as many hands make light work. This way the noise would be over quicker for them, doing both you and them a favour
