Dunno, even if you could you will end up paying loads in data charges.
Whats wrong with the built in wifi?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Yes, it's called tethering, or mobile hotspot under the settings menu

Apple only support that on iPhone 4 and later, OP says they have a iPhone 3 (probably 3GS) and tethering is not officially supported. It can be done if the device is Jailbroken using 3rd party apps.

Most mobile data networks block or charge a premium to tether (as it is an additional service). Watch out for this!

what IOS version is on the iphone - 'out of the box' tethering is dependent upon the phone software not the hardware version...

jailbroken - has other means of unlocking this..

err bit of a fail on your part..

read the link you posted and you will find 3G & 3GS support bluetooth connectivity for hot spot sharing; this is more secure than wifi anyway.. and covers why i currently share my 3gs connection with my 2 ipads..

Fair enough, I hadn't heard of Bluetooth tethering, only Wifi. Reading the requirements for Bluetooth tethering it seemed to suggest a PC or Mac needed to be involved.

So where in settings do you set up Personal Hotspot? I have a 3GS running 5.1.1 and it shows up nowhere!
