Sainsbury's Quality

Can regular Sainsbury's shopper's tell me if they think the quality of food at Sainsbury's has gone down recently? I did a shop last weekend and bought normal weekly things i.e mushrooms, banana's, bread, milk etc.

I noticed the next day that the basic brown bread had already gone mouldy and the mushrooms by the third day were drying up!

I'm normally a Tesco/Lidl shopper but do occasionally pop in once and a while and was wondering if it was just bad luck on this trip :(

On the contrary, they're towards the end of a rebrand of all their own mid-range own brand to 'by Sainsbury's' that has seen the quality of all their products go up as far as I can tell.

I would say bad luck on bread being mouldy, especially with in its use by date.

Though I will ask how you stored the bread?
I would ask the temp and humidty of the store etc but that may be asking to much.
I would put it down the above rather than bread quality.
The bread it self is unlikely to be made in a JS specific bakery.

Though also on quality, some things that give a bread a good fresh eat, may not be the best at preventing mould. Thus you may get better quality on eating on one hand but loose out on product deteriating.

I find sainsbury's very hit and miss. I'd say they are better quality than Tesco, Asda and in many cases, Morrison's but not as good quality as Waitrose. The bananas in local Sainsbury's are horrific; even if you go first thing they all look like they have been sitting around for weeks and are going black. Potatoes it is hard to find some in the shop that aren't green already. I haven't been to my local branch in a while as I can never get everything on my list because there are vast swathes of their product range they simply don't sell, they are the same size as the local waitrose yet somehow the local waitrose manage to sell hundreds more different products than them, also the quality issue. I was often having to go back the next day but to waitrose instead xx

The quality of fresh meat, esp. steak is far better than Tesco.

I notice my food from everywhere (market stalls through to deli counters at supermarkets) wont last as long in the warmer summer months. Once the temperature goes above 15 degrees there is a distinct difference and many foods are not worth buying if they don't have at least 2-3 days left on the BBE.

Things get better when the weather gets cooler, its not due to the quality of the foods in my experience anyway.

I think it can also depend when you shop there. Sounds stupid, but I know that Tuesday is restock day at my local branch so there tends to be very little in there veg-wise and what's there, doesn't last. If I go on a Wednesday everything is much fresher.

I use Sainsbury's regularly and find them to be one of the most consistent supermarkets in terms of quality. I rarely use Asda or Tesco so can't comment - the only place that I think has gone REALLY downhill lately is Marks and Spencers. Used to buy a few things from there fairly regularly but I just don't bother any more, the quality of everything has declined really noticeably in the past six months.

I think the quality at sainsbury's is usually really good and I haven't noticed any change recently.

Once or twice I have bought fruit from them to find it mouldy a couple of days later, as it was still in date i took it back to the store and they were very apologetic and offered me my money back straight away.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
