Data usage help
Just had a 50 MINUTE argument with 3 trying to cancel my contract, wherein the bloke lied to me or gave me misinformation at least three times.
*sigh*
Anyway, the real sticking point was : I currently use about 300/400 meg of data each month on my iPhone 3GS. I use it mainly for Facebook/Twitter and downloading emails. I use it on the WiFi at home so it's only really out and about. I never use it for streaming videos etc.
Thinking of cutting back my 1 gig allowance to 500 meg with this cheaper tarif. The bloke on the phone argued that because I am getting a HD phone I will automatically use more data, even though I will be doing the same stuff (checking emails and looking at Facebook mainly). Is this correct? I don't want to be tied into a contract where I am constantly exceeding the data allowance.
My usage wont change, but will the HD phone mean that I automatically use more data?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've tried googling it and it mainly seems to be talking about streaming HD videos.

It is not for the guy on the phone to worry about, switch to 500mb per month and if you find it is not enough then simply switch back to 1gb a month, no point getting into a debate with him about it.0

Only problem is, if I go back to 1 gig, the contract 3 are offering me is actually cheaper!!0

There isn't a problem, unless you make it a problem, 1gb is hard to use when the device is used sensibly, looking at my usage this month at this rate I will be hard pushed to hit 400mb and like you email, twitter and the likes daily, I don't know of a network that does not offer a facility to check your up to date usage as the month progresses, so I'm not even sure why you are debating with the CS rep?0 -

Because he told me that because I am getting a phone with a HD screen, I will automatically use more data? Is this a lie? (Another one by Three customer services)0 -

Websites are split in to two formats
Mobile and 'desktop'. If your phone loads the desktop version (the normal version you see and most smartphones tend to load) yes it will use more data but it's a set size and doesn't change depending on the screen resolution, it will just be scaled to fit whichever screen.
If you open a web page and its 3mb it wont change to say 3.5mb just because you use a HD screen.
Offshore call centres for you eh! I'm having a lovely time speaking to Orange at the moment trying to get them to understand me also.0 -

Excellent - that's very helpful, thank you. Think I am going to go with the 500 meg limit and see what happens as if it works it will save me £10 a month.0
