Why is Currys so expensive?

I do like electrical gadgets, and do shop around for prices doing a lot of price comparisons. I very very rarely buy from the Dixon's group. In fact I probably made about 30 electronic purchases in the last year, and only two of them were made from the Dixon's group (two refurbished TV's which were good enough for the kids, which I am very pleased with). I bought a 47 inch TV from Amazon (I went into Asda and looked at the same TV, it was £100 more), an expensive food mixer from Amazon etc etc because they not only offered the lowest prices on the items i was interested in (by up to £100 which is far far more than 5% less lol) but also offer no questions asked returns in case of problems. I too have gone into Currys et al and found I knew more about the products than the salesperson (yes, I do my research too).
When buying a high brand washing machine 18 months ago, I went into Comet with website print outs of the prices online and the salesperson said they couldn't match them.
Yes, undoubtedly shop premises and sales staff cost more to provide (but one has to ask oneself if that gives them much of an advantage as the salespeople aren't well informed about their products).., but even the products sold by Dixon's online can usually be purchased for less elsewhere. If price is king.., places like Dixon's and Curry's are the paupers.0 -
I guess you are paying for the brand, also it is somewhat a monopoly with the same company under different names. So not really much outside competition unless you shop for bargains online.0

I like browsing in Currys but rarely buy from them because John Lewis not only price match but also offer far better guarantees than Currys do, e.g. 5 years for TVs as opposed to 1 year for Currys.0
