    Indeed very highly rated.

I was lucky enough to get a 1 year sub to ESET Internet Security (the AV part is the NOD32 engine). So at the moment I'm using that, but if it wasn't free then I wouldn't used paid-for security software.

Avira (real time) + malwarebytes (monthly)

The pain was getting rid of the free Panda A/V after the free subscription ran out.

I've been using Avast and Malwarebytes for years and never had any problems.

I still use mcafee after using avast and avg, that said I can get it off a well known auction site for around £6 so I'm happy to pay that

Mcafee regularly does comes out very low in most reviews, also find when using virustotal that Mcafee rarely is on the ball, most of the free ones regularly come out higher, including dare I say it, AVG 2012.

If you decide to to use a free AV i can't understand then running a paid for AV on top. Whenever I have had two AVs running it has degraded performance massively.

Avast and Malwarebytes now, both pretty good IMO -well they let me know when they spot /block things and appear to do something with them.

McAfee was the worst, IME, of the ones I coughed up for.
Kapersky did find stuff that was causing problems after AVG didn't appear to spot it back in 2010.

    Oops yes you're right!
Still living with my bad experiences of yester-year. :D
That said I would never, ever go back to paid - especially now that I am using sandboxie in addition to my freebies.
