cd-writer drawer opening and closing???
Comments

You could try disabling it, hopefully this might stop it opening and closing until you can fit a new one.
go to: Start > run
type: devmgmt.msc this brings up the device manager
find DVD/DR ROM drives
Expand this and right click on your CD drive, then click disable0 -
Thanks Nikolai,
I have disabled both the cd-writer and the DVD rom (I have never even used them) and also uninstalled them to no avail.
Can I physically remove these from the tower????0 -
yes,
just pop the side/back off your case, they will have 2 leads going into the back of each, just unplug and probally a couple of screws holding into the mount at the side then they just slide out.
be careful of static when doing it. maybe wear an anti static wristband. (to protect your pc not yourself)
i would leave the dvd rom in though for now incase you do need it in future.0 -
I recently had a fault with an HP CD_writer, the draw suddenly started to open and close. Futher investigation confirmed it was a hardware fault, when heated with a hair dryer it started when cooled with use of freezer spray it worked perfectly. Cure simple replacement of the unit. All is well now.

Which do you have installed AVG Anti Virus or AVG Anti spyware? They are 2 different packages, you can have both installed but obviously the anti virus one is the crucial one."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Hi Superscaper,
I have both and neither have removed the virus (if thats what it is).
I think I will have to physically remove the cd- drive, unless anyone has any more suggestions??
Thanks
