cd-writer drawer opening and closing???

Hi Everyone,
I have a HP Pavilion 7925 that was given to me. I have never used the cd-writer but for some reason the drawer is just opening and closing all the time, anyone any ideas on how to fix this??
Thanks a million
Suzanne

Is it opening all the way? It can happen if there is something jamming it preventing it opening all the way. Certain cd drives have clips to hold cds in place and if one opened while the tray was inside it could stop it fully opening.

is your security, anti virus up to date ? ?

one feature of netbus (a trogan remote program) was to open and close the cd drawer of a pc connected to.

dont panic, not implying you HAVE been infected just asking to rule it out.

If it's nothing obvious like a bent clip or something jammed in the back then it's more than likely just the sensors are faulty - nothing much you can do about it except replace the drive - they're classed as consumables these days as a replacement CDRW should be less than £20 & a combo drive less than £25 - both easy to fit.

Get a DVD writer for £25 - you can write CDs with it too.

    Thanks everyone for your replies.
Don`t believe anything is jamming it. PC is very slow today. (drawer hasn`t opened yet, but only just logged on)
I have Ntl Netguard which I scanned yesterday with no viruses found??
    Anyone any ideas please??
    Thanks again

Make sure your virus checker looks for BackOrifice, amusingly titled I know but software which allows remote access of your PC. One of its features allows the open and closing of the CD drive, as well as some other amusing stuff.

Again, not saying you have it but its worth checking, are you happy with the person who gave you the PC ?

Go through the malware removal guide http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=133269. I wouldn't trust ntl netguard to rule out virus/spyware.
