As soon as they print the job off you have accpeted it and need to apply.
This was never explained to me when I was on JSA. I thought they were literally just helping with my job search until they gave me a job, I went home and tried to apply and the job was no longer listed on the company website. I thought nothing of it until two weeks later they asked me what I did. I told them the job had gone and they said I should have rang them at the time so they could have verified that I was telling the truth. They "let me off" that time.

Yes I understand that now Sarah, for some reason no on explained that to me at the JC in the 18 months I've been there. Maybe there was some contractual documentation given to me when I started on JSA about this. I suspect there would be, as I say it was a genuine error on my part without knowingly realizing the consequences which I do now.
Also while we are talking about job adverts on JCD there are a lot that are mis leading or sound like one thing when they are in fact something else. I would always get an email address and no phone as you have a tracking system then as to who said what and when and if it was not the job you were looking for or mis leading then you can say what happened.

I have emailed a company before to tell them the JC where still advertising a job that was no longer listed on their site (advert directed me to the website to apply) and the job replied that they had instructged the JC to take the advert down but obviously they hadn't.

Next time, drop the company an email to tell them the JC are still advertising the job.

    Hi Everyone

Just thought I would post an update. I rang the Job Centre on Fri as it's been nearly two weeks and I hadn't heard anything back about my form I had filled in with reasons why I didn't apply. The Job Centre informed me that I have been given a 6 month sanction and they stopped my benefits a few days ago. They say that I should receive a letter in the post soon, would be nice so I can put in an appeal.

Initially devastated, incredibly enough I get offered a job two hours later and I go from a state of total dejection to complete ecstacy after being out of work for 18 months. I will be appealing in any case because I think it's harsh and as I mentioned before no one had explained to me that if I took the piece of paper from them and didn't apply I would face sanctions.

So I am going to the Job Centre to sign off tomorrow and frankly I am so happy.

Six MONTHS! For not applying for one job? That's insane!

Your agreement is to apply for x number of jobs per week, and it does NOT include providing traceable evidence so the job centre can verify it. Just say you're not letting me off; it's your job to prove I haven't applied.

I normally write down the ad ID ref and the date I applied. When the advisor can't find it because it's not there anymore, and whines, I simply say that's your problem.

I have always followed my JC agreement in terms of how many jobs I have applied for during the past 18 months. In fact I would say barring the piece of paper not applying scenario I have never put a foot wrong and wham a nice 6 month sanction.

The problem is you ADMITTED you didn't apply. If you claim you applied and they can't verify it, that's not your problem. If you applied but the employer auto rejected you it's not your problem. Never ever tell anyone who works for a job agency or the job centre itself that you have not applied for a job because of whatever reason. Don't give a reason because they don't care.

I would appeal on the grounds that when you did more research into the job, you found it to be something different to what the brief details on the printout said. Give details of what the job actually was and say why you felt it wasn't suitable for you.

Congratulations on the new job, hope it works out for you.

I never filled one book, not on it for long but I never kept the jobs they printed for me or copies of posted application forms.
