If you cant remember then you cant but dont use that as an exscuse for the JC, hope you get it sorted.0

You need to find out the job in question. Is it possible that you applied for the job in a letter? Is it possible you have a paper copy of the letter you sent? Is it possible that the firm never replied to the letter?
Clearly if you could produce the letter you sent them (the one they did not reply to) it must have been lost in the post. Obviously it is not an explanation you could use very often.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
Dear Admania, I was caught in the exact same position once. In your case there must have been a particular reason why you didn't apply for the job, or maybe you enquired more and found you weren't eligible. Find out the fullest details you can of the job in question, it will jog your memory. In the unlikely case that there isn't an obvious and true reason why you didn't apply for the job, then you have no option but to lie - I wouldn't feel at all guilty and you shouldn't.I didn't ask to be born!0

Agree with Crazy Larry and if you have too just lie about it. Just say that you phoned the agency and never heard anything further regarding the job. Who is to know?. Don't give those often smug and arrogant JCP staff the satisfaction that you have been caught out as they will be rubbing their hands with glee if you admit to it0

Er, so now we're advising people to lie about applying for jobs so that they can get benefits?
Do you think that's good advice?
Maybe being honest would be a better option?
Is it really so difficult to keep records of jobs you apply for and the outcome?0 -

Er, that's not what's being said, if you can be bothered to read through the whole thread, she states she can't remember if she applied or not. Therefore if she states she didn't apply or can't remember if she applied she will probably get sanctioned.
As for your other sarcastic point, some jobseekers are applying for 100's of jobs a week. Is it inconceivable that you might have omitted one of these in error on your job record.0 -

The immediately previous poster had indeed advised the OP to lie, and I imagine that's what Stylehutz was responding to.0 -
Ok thanks for all the responses. I thought I would post this update. I did manage to find out more information about this job opportunity by searching the internet and I found the history and it jogged my memory.
I did contact the recruitment agency about the role however the role was not what I was hoping it would be. The vacancy had manager in the title so I thought it may have involved managing people or a team etc. This is what I did when I was self employed and employed 2 full time staff and a number of part time people too. It was actually more about managing a territory i.e field sales and hence I didn't apply.
Maybe I have been naive but no one at my Job Centre had told me that if I accepted a piece of paper with what seemed a legitimate vacancy and I didn't apply I could be sanctioned, they never informed me of this on any occasion. Conversations would be like "would this opportunity be of interest to you?", I would then have a quick look on screen and if I felt it was appropriate to me based on the info given I would say "yes" and then they would print it off and hand it to me. I just thought they were being helpful which they were.
At home I find many opportunites through sites like indeed where the job looks interesting but when you dig deeper, I either don't have certain qualifications for it or it's not what it originally seemed and I don't apply for it. I don't see a great deal of difference between this and the job centre advisor searching for something for me to explore in more detail.
I did ring my local job centre today and told them about what happened and what I did with the job lead. I also told them on the phone that I was really concerned about sanctions and I genuinely hadn't been told that this could happen if I didn't apply for a lead given to me. The advisor actually apologised for this and told me to put everything I told her on the form and hand it in to the Job Centre which I have done. Now I must wait to see if I get sanctioned or not.
Clearly from now on if a JC advisor hands me a job lead I will apply for it regardless so this situation never arises again.0 -

I have turned jobs down if they are advertised with agencies and if they have my CV already. As soon as they print the job off you have accpeted it and need to apply.0 -
Yes I understand that now Sarah, for some reason no on explained that to me at the JC in the 18 months I've been there. Maybe there was some contractual documentation given to me when I started on JSA about this. I suspect there would be, as I say it was a genuine error on my part without knowingly realizing the consequences which I do now.0
